Our service members make undeniable sacrifices for our nation and give back to our communities in innumerable ways. They deserve our gratitude and support, including access to all of the benefits they have earned through their service.
That is why I was proud to join a bipartisan coalition of 42 attorneys general in support of Army veteran James R. Rudisill, who has been wrongfully denied the full education benefits he is owed under the GI Bill after multiple tours of duty in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Veterans like Mr. Rudisill selflessly dedicate their lives to defending our country and the values that define us. Honoring our commitments to them is the least we can do in return.
In solidarity,
Rob

Saving Endangered Species
This week, the California DOJ filed a comment letter regarding the Biden Administration’s proposed rules that would strengthen regulations implementing the federal Endangered Species Act. California’s biodiversity and wildlife are unsurpassed, but increasingly at risk due to climate-fueled weather events that threaten to drive certain species closer to extinction. We must be ever-vigilant in protecting our natural resources for current and future generations.

Standing Up for LGBTQ+ Students
The rise in school districts adopting policies that target California’s vulnerable LGBTQ+ student population is of grave concern. My office is closely monitoring the situation and will not tolerate districts compromising the safety and privacy of transgender and gender nonconforming students. We will remain committed to ensuring school policies do not violate students’ civil rights.

Holding Bad Actors Accountable
Our office secured a prison sentence for a man who stole victims’ identities and opened lines of credit in their names to purchase luxury vehicles in Southern California. We won't stand idly by when bad actors prey on businesses and innocent people to enrich themselves. I want to thank DOJ’s hardworking attorneys, as well as our partners in Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego counties, for coming together to make sure justice is served.

Protecting Victims of Domestic Violence
We filed an amicus brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to reverse a decision that would endanger domestic violence victims and put guns into the hands of their abusers. Violent individuals who would assault or harm another person should not be in possession of a gun. The government must maintain the ability to protect residents from violence from those who are a demonstrated threat to public safety.

Combating Organized Retail Theft
My office announced charges against four suspects accused in Southern California “Smash-and-Grab” robberies. Organized retail theft harms businesses, retailers, and consumers – and puts the public at risk. I want to thank our local law enforcement partners for their work in apprehending the suspects in this case. The California Department of Justice and its partners will continue fighting to keep our communities, businesses, and consumers safe from retail theft and other crimes.

Everyone hates robocalls—but they’re more than just annoying, they put people at a risk for fraud. If you’ve fallen victim to a robocall scam, report it to local law enforcement and our office at http://oag.ca.gov/report.
