Across the state, families are struggling to make ends meet, and exorbitant gas prices are driving those ends further and further apart. Californians need and deserve to know they’re not being taken advantage of.
That’s why I am co-sponsoring legislation with Governor Newsom to increase transparency in the gas industry and to hold gas companies like Chevron and Exxon accountable for ripping off millions of hardworking Californians.
It’s time for big oil to play by the rules, or pay the price.

Holding Big Oil Accountable
As many Californians struggle to make ends meet, oil companies like Chevron and Exxon continue raking in record profits on the backs of consumers.
Enough is enough. We must increase transparency and accountability in the oil industry. I stand proudly with Governor Newsom in sponsoring legislation to end to this egregious behavior and make oil companies pay their due. Together, we are fighting to even the scales for California consumers.

Defending Californians' Access to Housing
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Local governments don’t get to pick and choose which state laws they want to follow. Our state housing laws are a crucial tool for bringing much-needed affordable housing to our communities. Huntington Beach’s lawsuit is another baseless and obstructionist attempt by the city to defy state housing laws. This week, the court sent a strong message by denying Huntington Beach’s latest attempt to block their city’s residents from accessing crucial housing opportunities afforded by state law.

Protecting Public Safety
This week my office provided assistance to local law enforcement in Sacramento that helped lead to the identification of a suspect in a five-year-old cold case. We’re dedicated to working with our partners in law enforcement to pursue accountability and advance public safety.

Calling Out Automakers for Failing to Protect Consumers
Cars are often one of the largest purchases a family will ever make — and families shouldn’t have to worry that manufacturers are cutting corners that could put their purchase at risk. This week, I sent a letter to Hyundai and Kia who from 2011 to 2022 chose not to include anti-theft devices on their vehicles, which was a standard feature in almost every other new car manufactured during that time. Now, Hyundai and Kia car owners are paying the price. It’s time for Hyundai and Kia to take responsibility for their poor decision which is hurting American families and putting public safety at risk.

Preventing Elder Abuse
Elder abuse is a national issue that threatens some of the most vulnerable members of our communities — according to figures by the U.S. Department of Justice, at least 10% of adults age 65 and older will be a victim of elder abuse in a given year.
Our elders should never suffer, especially in silence. I urge Californians to look at the warning signs, and to report confirmed or suspected mistreatment to our Division of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse at oag.ca.gov/dmfea/reporting.
