While we wait for Congress to take action at the federal level to address the gun violence crisis, we know here in California we can do even more to save lives. That’s why this week I was proud to sponsor new legislation to strengthen California’s existing concealed carry laws. This bill, SB 2, would prohibit dangerous individuals from carrying a concealed firearm and restrict access in sensitive places.
This is our latest effort in our fight for gun safety. California has the strongest gun safety laws in the nation and we have one of the lowest firearm mortality rates. We are determined to make our laws even stronger, and in doing so, save more lives.
Sincerely,
Rob Bonta
California Attorney General

Savings Lives Together
The fact is, individuals who are not law-abiding, responsible citizens simply shouldn’t possess firearms — and they especially shouldn’t be allowed to carry a concealed weapon in public. Because when a gun is placed in the wrong hands, it is deadly.

DVROs Can Save Lives
Restraining orders, including Domestic Violence Restraining Orders, prohibit the possession of firearms in California. These orders are an essential tool that remain in effect and may be requested at any time.
I urge Californians to utilize these life-saving tools.

Protecting Consumers from Illegal Practices
This week, we secured a judgment against Curacao — a retail store chain with 10 locations in Southern California — who unlawfully profited from the chain's largely Latino immigrant customer base. Curacao’s unlawful business practices were targeted, pervasive, and showed a disregard for state consumer protection laws and the consumers those laws are intended to protect. The California Department of Justice will continue to hold those who take advantage of hardworking Californians accountable.
