This week, tragedy begot tragedy: Gun violence — from Monterey Park to Half Moon Bay — left families mourning and communities forever shaken.
California has some of the lowest firearm mortality rates in the nation, but we must do more to protect more lives. At the DOJ, we will continue to work every day to enforce and defend our state’s commonsense gun safety laws, and as we do, we need you:
Before many tragedies, there are often “red flags” — concerns that someone may pose a threat to themselves or others. California has strong red flag laws that can remove guns from those who may harm others. If you see something, say something to local law enforcement. We are in this together, and together we can save lives.
Sincerely,
Rob Bonta
California Attorney General

Standing Together to End Gun Violence
I joined Vice President Harris earlier this week in Monterey Park to stand with the community in mourning after the tragic Lunar New Year shooting. I spoke with community members and survivors, who showed incredible strength and resilience in the face of such a senseless tragedy. From national, state and local leaders to everyday Californians, I am heartened and inspired by what we can do when we support one another.
As we work to put an end to gun violence, we must do so together. At DOJ, we are collaborating with all our partners to explore a broad range of factors — from firearm availability to effective crisis prevention resources — to reduce the harm caused by firearms, prevent gun-related tragedies, and make California healthier and safer for all.

Be Vigilant Against Fraudulent Crowdfunding
While we have much work ahead to tackle America’s disease, people are also coming together to support those who are hurting and who have lost loved ones. I encourage all Californians to extend a helping hand wherever possible and to take advantage of the resources available across the state. If you plan on giving, please be wary of scammers and do your research before you donate.

Keeping Guns Out of Places of Worship
The fact is, more guns in more places makes us less safe and interferes with the ability of our citizens to exercise their constitutional rights. In the United States, tragic mass shootings such as those we've seen in recent days are all too common and as we see this trauma compound in our communities, we must do more, not less. We must provide the public with protection from gun violence, and respect the authority of states as they implement commonsense gun regulations to safeguard their communities.

Suing Google for Unfair Monopoly
In many cases, a business’s online presence can make or break its success, and advertising is a key component in that equation. Google’s anticompetitive practices and obsessive need for control of advertising technology markets has not only controlled pricing, but has stifled creativity in a space where innovation is crucial. Poised to become the fourth largest economy in the world, it is in California’s best interest to ensure that creativity, innovation, and competition in technology are protected.

Avoid Unlicensed Contractors
As Californians recover from the devastating storms, the last thing they should worry about is being scammed by bad actors. We will not tolerate those who take advantage of consumers during this time of struggle for many. I urge all Californians to be diligent and do their research before making any kind of home repair through a contractor.
Additionally, if you believe you have been a victim of price gouging, report it to your local authorities or to my office at oag.ca.gov/report.

Video of the Week
This week was the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade — and instead of celebrating, we lament the fact that 1 in 3 women have lost access to abortion.
While these are dark times, California will continue to be a bright light for freedom, fundamental rights, and safety. We will not stop until freedom and choice are once again fully protected under the law.
