Yesterday, I was sworn in for a full term of office as California's chief law enforcement officer and made history as California's first elected Filipino American Attorney General.
My story is the California dream.
Born an ocean away to working parents, many people might have said that reaching this position would be impossible. But in the Golden State, anything is possible. I'm living proof that our dream is alive. With this responsibility comes the opportunity to make sure this dream is possible for every child. This role is a privilege, a duty and a sacred obligation and I will use the full authority of this office to to help as many people as possible. At the Department of Justice we are here to defend your freedom, your safety, and your well-being.
At the DOJ, justice is full speed ahead. We are here to listen, to communicate, and to engage. As we begin 2023, I invite you to continue learning about the work of the California DOJ, how it impacts you as a Californian, and use our office and its resources to help further push the California dream forward.
Sincerely,
Rob Bonta
California Attorney General

Securing Funding for the Opioid Crisis
Too many people in California and beyond have had their lives and futures ripped apart by the opioid crisis. This week we announced a $5 billion settlement with CVS to help bring much-needed relief to our communities and to ensure that CVS changes its business practices to keep such a crisis from ever happening again. As we embark on a new year together, here's my resolution — to never stop fighting for justice on behalf of all Californians and to do everything in my power to create a healthier future for us all.

Using Data to Strengthen Public Safety
Over the last several years, we’ve collected and analyzed information on nearly 12 million police encounters in our state. In turn, with the support of our staff at California DOJ, the California Racial and Identity Profiling Advisory Board has continued to issue thoughtful recommendations for how to strengthen public safety and build trust between law enforcement and our communities. I urge you to read the RIPA Board’s report.

RESOURCE CORNER
As the state endures road closures, power outages, and other potential impacts, it's important that Californians take the necessary precautions to protect themselves and their families. It's also important that businesses not take advantage of the current demand for essential supplies. With the Governor's declaration of a state of emergency, price gouging protections are in full effect. If you believe you have been a victim of price gouging, report it to your local authorities or to my office at oag.ca.gov/report.
