This week, I was proud to announce a proposed $5.7 billion multistate settlement with Walgreens to address the pharmacy's role in fueling the opioid epidemic. The settlement will resolve allegations that Walgreens failed to appropriately oversee the dispensing of opioids at its pharmacies and could bring more than $500 million in funds for California to fight the harms caused by the opioid epidemic, including addressing illicit fentanyl. This is an important step forward in our ongoing effort to hold accountable those who contributed to the opioid crisis and to bring help and healing to our communities.
As California Attorney General, I will continue to work tirelessly to secure valuable resources to combat the opioid crisis and to provide support for those struggling with substance abuse disorders.
Sincerely,
Rob Bonta
California Attorney General

Securing Funding to Battle the Opioid Crisis
This week's settlement is another win in our ongoing fight to bring help and healing to California communities harmed by the opioid crisis. To date, California DOJ has secured billions of dollars for California. This includes funding to address the fentanyl and opioid crisis with money for educational outreach campaigns, Naloxone (Narcan) distribution for schools, workforce training, treatment and prevention programs, and more.

Big Win to Protect Our Children's Health
When Big Tobacco urged the Supreme Court to block California's commonsense ban on flavored tobacco products, we fought back. This week, our office secured a critical victory: the Supreme Court issued an order denying Big Tobacco’s dangerous attempt. At a time when tobacco is already the number one preventable killer in the United States and flavored tobacco products have hooked a new generation of young smokers, this is a big win for California and our children. The voters of California approved this ban by an overwhelming margin in the November election and now it will finally take effect.

Saying "Stop" to Annoying Robotexts
Illegal and unwanted robotexts present the same problems as their counterpart robocalls – they invade consumer privacy and are vehicles for scams and identity theft. As Attorney General, I have fought to protect hardworking Californians from this daily source of frustration, and I stand in full support of the federal proposal to prevent many robotext scams from ever reaching consumers' phones.

Charges in Shooting Investigation
The Alameda County District Attorney's Office announced charges this week against a suspect in the shooting death of two-year-old Jasper Wu. Nothing can erase the pain caused by losing a child, but we hope this day brings some measure of healing to Jasper's family. I want to thank our law enforcement partners in the California Highway Patrol and the Alameda County DA's Office, and my team in DOJ's Special Operations Unit, for their hard work on this case.
