As we enter the holiday season, for too many Californians, loved ones will be missing from our celebrations — taken from us too soon by the opioid crisis. Nothing can bring them back, but at the California DOJ, we’re fighting for justice and accountability in their memory by holding the peddlers of the opioid epidemic accountable.
In that spirit, this week, we announced that we reached a multistate settlement in principle with Walmart to resolve allegations that the company helped fuel the opioid crisis by failing to appropriately oversee the dispensing of opioids at its pharmacies. The proposed settlement will provide more than $3 billion in funding — the vast majority of which will go to communities across the nation to help fight the opioid crisis.
There is nothing we can do to save the lives that were lost, but we can hold all those who profited from their addictions accountable for the devastation they caused. Because this holiday season, and always, the victims and survivors of this public health crisis deserve justice.
Sincerely,
Rob Bonta California Attorney General

Accountability for the Opioid Crisis
This week we announced reaching a multistate settlement in principle with Walmart to resolve allegations the company helped fuel the opioid crisis by failing to appropriately oversee the dispensing of opioids at its pharmacies. This is another step forward in our fight to hold all those who profited from the opioid epidemic accountable for the devastation they caused.

Supporting Transgender Kids
I’ve joined a coalition of attorneys general in filing an amicus brief in support of the ability of transgender students to participate in school sports. Our coalition is combatting efforts to prohibit a 10-year-old transgender girl in Indiana from playing on her elementary school’s girls’ softball team. It’s unacceptable and we’re fighting back.

Putting Gun Parts Manufacturer On Notice
I've ordered an immediate stop to the marketing, sale, and distribution of a device advertised as a way for gun owners to evade California’s gun safety laws. California’s assault weapon ban is a critical tool to prevent death and tragedy — not a technicality to try to get around. Those who treat our gun laws like a game are playing with the lives of families and children.

RESOURCE CORNER: Crypto Currency
Avoid the Hype, Get the Facts
We’ve launched a new webpage with tips, red flags, and other information on cryptocurrencies and other crypto assets. Don’t fall for a fantasy: Cryptocurrency, like all investments, carries significant risks, and there’s no guarantee that you’ll see large – or any – returns. You should only invest money you are willing to lose, and you should be on the lookout for red flags and potential scams.
