Do you know what the leading cause of death is for children in America? It’s gun violence. Every week, on average, over 150 children are shot. The gun violence epidemic is an unacceptable public health crisis.
That is why this week, I launched the Office of Gun Violence Prevention at the California Department of Justice. This innovative new office — the first of its kind in the nation — will help implement data-backed public safety strategies through partnership and collaboration. From increased training and public awareness, to initiatives to foster further cooperation between courts and law enforcement – the Office of Gun Violence Prevention will serve as the hub for best practices and a valuable resource for law enforcement agencies, cities and counties, and nonprofit partners to keep more Californians safe.
Gun violence is a crisis in America. This crisis demands more than thoughts and prayers. We need action, and that’s what this new office will help deliver.
Sincerely,
Rob Bonta
California Attorney General

Securing Cost-Saving
Energy Efficiency Standards
Right now, millions of Californians are awaiting their electricity bill with trepidation following a record-breaking heat wave that forced air conditioners on and drove energy prices higher. Stronger energy efficiency standards for common household and commercial products will put money back into the pockets of these California families and small businesses, while also helping save the planet.

Preventing Environmental Catastrophes
Just ahead of Climate Week, I announced an $8 million settlement with Safeway, resolving allegations that the company violated state environmental laws while operating underground storage tank systems at its 71 gas stations across California. The reality is: Accidents happen. Without proper safety measures in place, an avoidable crisis can become an environmental catastrophe.
