At the California Department of Justice, we proudly fight to protect our environment and the health and well-being of our communities. That’s why we celebrated earlier this week when a federal court struck down three Trump-era rules that undermined the Endangered Species Act — a critical law enacted by President Nixon in 1973 to protect wildlife and our natural world.
As we face the unprecedented threat of a climate emergency, now is the time to strengthen our planet’s biodiversity. At DOJ, we will continue our efforts to do just that as we fight for climate action and environmental justice.
Sincerely,
Rob Bonta
California Attorney General

Fighting for Climate Action and Environmental Justice
My office will continue its efforts to preserve our environment, take action on climate, and stand up for frontline communities who are all too often under-resourced and overburdened:

Our Unwavering Commitment
Last week, the Supreme Court issued a decision restricting the EPA’s ability to address emissions from power plants. That decision was misguided and gravely disappointing. It will have dangerous consequences. We are running out of time in the fight against climate change, and we need all levels of government working together to take action before it’s too late. In California, we have strong programs in place to address climate change, and we will not go backwards. We will continue to use all the tools we have to reduce emissions, fight climate change, and protect public health. That includes pushing for stronger environmental regulations at the federal level. With the future of our planet at stake, our commitment to tackling the climate crisis cannot waver.

Announcing Sentencing in Organized $1M Fraud Scheme
I am proud to announce that as a result of years of work by the California Department of Justice and our law enforcement partners, this week we announced the sentencing of 29 individuals associated with criminal street gangs throughout California known as the Bully Boys and the CoCo Boys. The gangs and their associates were alleged to have conspired to defraud victims throughout California by hacking the credit card terminals and merchant accounts of dozens of medical and dental businesses.
The defendants will serve a combined prison sentence of approximately 86 years. This should send a powerful message: Criminal activity will not be tolerated in our state and we will hold those participating in illegal activities accountable.
