Senseless gun violence continues to tear families apart. This week, we saw yet another horrific mass shooting — this time, tragedy hit a hospital in Tulsa that left four victims dead, including our healthcare heroes. This string of deadly gun violence has left no place sacred: Children are killed in our schools. Parishioners are shot in church. And families are gunned down in our grocery stores.
This National Gun Violence Awareness Day, we need more than thoughts and prayers. We need action. That is why at the California Department of Justice, we are doubling down on our gun safety efforts. We continue to defend our commonsense gun safety laws in court, crack down on the surge of untraceable ghost guns, and remove firearms from the hands of dangerous individuals — including just this week as part of a gang takedown in Stockton that local officials are calling “the largest takedown of organized crime in the history of the county.” Public safety is my top priority, and as your Attorney General, I promise we won’t rest until all our families are safe.
Sincerely,
Rob Bonta
California Attorney General

Fighting Serious Crime & Gun Violence
Yesterday, I announced the results of a multiagency gang takedown in Stockton that is being reported as the “largest takedown of organized crime in the history of San Joaquin County.” As part of our operation, we arrested 90 individuals, seized 58 firearms – including 12 ghost guns and 10 assault weapons – and confiscated deadly drugs like fentanyl. I am also pleased to share that as part of this investigation, our agents prevented alleged acts of violent crime — including an attempted murder, four shootings, a burglary, and a robbery. Collaborative law enforcement efforts such as this operation are a key component in our efforts to protect Californians and promote public safety.

Defending Reproductive Rights
I traveled to San Diego on Wednesday to issue a statewide consumer alert warning Californians seeking reproductive health services about the limited and potentially misleading nature of the services provided by crisis pregnancy centers. Crisis pregnancy centers often work to attract pregnant Californians into their facilities through vague claims about the information and services they offer. While they may claim to offer comprehensive reproductive healthcare services, their mission is to discourage people from accessing abortion care. As reproductive freedom nationwide comes under threat, my message to Californians is simple: Know your rights. Do your research. Connect with programs that will provide you with truthful information and timely reproductive healthcare.

Protecting Students from Predatory Colleges
This week we celebrated the Department of Education’s decision to grant $5.8 billion in student loan debt relief to 560,000 borrowers who attended Corinthian Colleges — a now-defunct for-profit college that operated dozens of campuses across California. This decision is the culmination of a decade-long legal battle by the California Department of Justice to hold Corinthian Colleges accountable for its predatory conduct and to compel the federal government to process debt relief claims. I applaud the Department of Education for finally making good on its promise to provide debt relief to these defrauded borrowers.

RESOURCE CORNER
California has strong laws in place protecting reproductive freedom, including the right to safe and legal abortion. This week, I issued a consumer alert urging all Californians seeking reproductive health services to do research before going to a clinic to learn about their abortion options. Importantly, Californians who are pregnant or believe they may be pregnant should know this information:
