In recent days, we’ve witnessed a solemn string of unspeakable events — from a horrific mass shooting at a church in Laguna Woods to a murderous, racist rampage in Buffalo, New York. At the California Department of Justice, our hearts ache for the victims of these heinous tragedies, and we hold their families and communities in our prayers.
Senseless violence must not only be condemned — it must be prevented. We must find the resolve as an American people to stand up to the forces of hate and division that too often sow violence. We must build bridges of understanding between our diverse communities.
This is work that requires all of us. And as your Attorney General, I’m committed to doing my part — from leading public safety efforts aimed at reducing gun violence to launching our Racial Justice Bureau. Because at DOJ, we will always fight for what matters most: the safety, health, and well-being of the nearly 40 million people of California.
Sincerely,
Rob Bonta
California Attorney General

Protecting Californians' Right to Clean Air
Once again, California’s longstanding authority to set its own vehicle emissions standards is under attack. California’s standards are some of the best tools we have to reduce emissions, fight climate change, and protect public health. But unfortunately, there are some who continue to ignore these benefits, choosing inexplicably to defend outdated, pollution-generating vehicles even as technologies enabling emissions reductions and cost savings continue to advance. My office has defended California’s authority to set its own vehicle emissions standards from an onslaught of attacks in recent years, and we’re not going to back down now. We will do everything we can to safeguard Californians’ health and our climate future.

VIDEO OF THE WEEK
Cynthia Bonta is an incredible activist who organized alongside labor giants Larry Itliong and Philip Vera Cruz and continues to mentor young activists to this day. She is also my mom, and my biggest hero. In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Month, I sat down with her at Itliong-Vera Cruz Middle School in Union City to talk about her work.

CONSUMER ALERT
The current baby formula shortage is a nightmare for parents who are confronting empty shelves and increasing costs to feed their babies. The federal government and major manufacturers are working to increase supply, but we know that this will still take time – and families need to feed their babies now. We are keeping a close eye out for unlawful activity, including the sale of expired or recalled baby formula and price fixing or collusion among manufacturers or retailers.
If you have information on potential violations of the law, please report it at oag.ca.gov/report.
