A year ago, I was sworn in as California Attorney General. Serving in this role has been the honor and privilege of a lifetime. In California, we look out for each other and nowhere is that more evident than at the California Department of Justice.
As the leader of the California DOJ, I am honored to work alongside our agents, legal teams, and staff, as well as law enforcement partners throughout the state to safeguard Californians and secure justice. This year, we’ve worked together to protect public safety, prevent gun violence, and advance justice for all Californians — especially communities historically marginalized and overlooked. We’ve defended and enforced laws touching all facets of life, including healthcare, environment, housing, consumer protection, and much more.
Today I’m taking a moment of gratitude for our shared accomplishments over the past year, and again reaffirming my commitment to you as we continue to bring justice and accountability within reach of all Californians.
It’s been a job well done, but we have much more to do.
Onward,
Rob

Taking Down Gangs, Preventing Mass Shootings
Last week, I announced 47 felony arrests — including 17 related to human trafficking and pimping — as a result of a months-long, multiagency investigation into violent criminal street gangs operating in Fresno. Not only did this collaborative law enforcement effort take guns off the street and put suspected gang members behind bars, but the investigation also revealed that our operation prevented planned crimes, including two mass shootings. Thank you to our partners in Fresno and across the state for working with us day-in and day-out to protect the people of California.

Solving a Cold Case in Richmond
This week we announced that we helped solve a decades-old cold case in Richmond. This case is a testament to the determination of our state's investigators, forensic scientists, and law enforcement partners. Over the course of more than 20 years, law enforcement working this case never gave up. I’m proud of the work of our Bureau of Forensic Services and Bureau of Investigation for helping get the job done. And thank you to the Richmond Police Department and our partners in Contra Costa County for your efforts in resolving this case.

We can choose a future of climate justice, or we can fail to do what’s needed to protect our communities. I know what future I choose. And I’m willing to do the work to get there, with the full weight of the law behind me.
We're fighting for clean air, clean water, and a sustainable climate for all Californians each and every day. And we’re just getting started. #EarthDay2022
