From gas prices to the cost of housing, Californians’ budgets are being stretched in ways that create real stress at the kitchen table. As California Attorney General, I’m using every tool I have to keep wages up and prices down so that working families can actually get ahead.
That’s why on Friday — as gas prices continued to sharply rise — I warned oil refineries in California: Do not take advantage of the current global crisis to harm consumers at the pump. My office is currently in court holding multinational gas trading firms accountable for alleged anticompetitive conduct, we are closely monitoring the market, and we will not hesitate to take action against others if they violate the law.
Our actions come on top of our everyday efforts to reduce costs and improve access to housing, healthcare, education, and more. There is more work to do, and that’s why we'll keep at it.
Sincerely,
Rob

A Message to Gas Companies:
We're Watching for Price Fixing
Last week in California, we saw the price of gas rise to a record-breaking $5.75 a gallon. On Friday, I sent a letter to the CEOs of refineries active in California to remind them of their obligations under state law. My office also provided an update on our litigation against multinational gas-trading firms SK Energy Americas and Vitol for anticompetitive conduct. We are closely monitoring the market, and we will not hesitate to take action against those who violate the law. We urge you to report any evidence of illegal activity.

Working Together to Protect Public Safety
|
Last week, I was honored to meet with the Chief Probation Officers of California to discuss solutions for our state's biggest issues when it comes to public safety. Our challenges may sometimes feel enormous, but so are the opportunities when we work together. Together, we can find opportunities for progress, opportunities to make a difference, and opportunities to make our communities even stronger.
