Community Members:
I would like to thank all those who participated in this year's Summer Reading Program at the Newport Beach Public Library, and recognize our Library Services staff for delivering another stellar series.
The summer 2025 numbers were impressive:
- Participation and attendance in the seven-week program increased by about 9% from the previous year, with 2,147 adults, teens and children participating.
- Participants logged 904,649 minutes of reading -- a 57% increase over last year's reading totals. That’s the equivalent of one person reading nonstop for 628 days or reading about 2,500 full-length books!
- Overall, about 18,137 patrons attended various summer Library programs in June and July.
In advance of the new school year beginning in the coming weeks, here are some of the Library’s helpful resources for teachers, parents and students of all ages and reading levels:
- Visit student resources for a full list of useful databases for elementary school homework needs.
- For teens, check out our college prep resources, including an informative workshop series for teens and parents as they navigate the college application and financial aid process.
- Book a field trip or a library staff visit using the educator and student services
- Find free after-school programs such as STEAM Lab, Makerspace, Middle Grade Book Club and more on our children’s calendar.
- Check out the pre-school reading program 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, which encourages parent/child reading, and the teen reading challenge 100 Books Before Graduation for middle and high school students looking to read for fun.
Please join us for other summer events throughout the month of August, including Concerts on the Green, children’s activities and art exhibitions. Stay in touch with all Library happenings at newportbeachlibrary.org.

On Tuesday, August 5, the Newport Beach Police Department proudly joined law enforcement agencies across the country in celebrating National Night Out, an annual community-building campaign that strengthens the bond between officers and the neighborhoods they serve.
Residents of all ages packed the event, where a variety of hands-on booths offered views into different areas of the department, including SWAT, K9, Parking Control, Animal Control, Dispatch and more.
Attendees had an opportunity to connect one-on-one with police officers and civilian staff, ask questions, and get a behind-the-scenes look at the tools, vehicles, and resources used to keep Newport Beach safe.
From strengthening relationships to showcasing the people and programs behind the badge, National Night Out served as a reminder that public safety is a shared effort, and there’s no better partner than the Newport Beach community.
