Community Members:
After more than 30 years in local government and the past seven years serving as your city manager, I recently announced my decision to retire at the end of this year. It has been a tremendous honor to serve this exceptional community and lead our dedicated staff.
I am pleased to share that the Newport Beach City Council has unanimously appointed Seimone Jurjis as the next city manager, effective December 27, 2025. Seimone has been a key part of our executive leadership team for many years as director of community development and assistant city manager, among other roles in areas of building and planning.
Seimone brings more than three decades of combined public- and private-sector experience to his new position. Since joining the City of Newport Beach in 2011, he has led major initiatives that have improved service delivery, streamlined development processes, and enhanced transparency and access for residents.
Seimone’s deep understanding of the City’s operations, his proven leadership, and his strong commitment to public service make him the ideal choice to lead Newport Beach into the future.
The months ahead will provide a valuable opportunity for a smooth and effective transition. I will be working closely with Seimone and our executive team to ensure that the City continues to operate at the high standards our residents expect. This will be a collaborative transition focused on continuity and stability.
Thank you for your support throughout the years. I look forward to seeing Newport Beach continue to thrive under Seimone’s capable leadership.
City Manager, Grace K. Leung

Newport Beach's Public Works Department regularly performs minor renovations and upkeep of City-owned athletic fields to ensure maximum safety and playability.
Sometimes more extensive work is needed. A recent example was at the Lincoln Athletic Center, at 3101 Pacific View Dr., where the City replaced 40,000 square feet of turf with new hybrid Bermuda sod.
As part of California Senate Bill 1383 (SB1383), cities across the state must establish food recovery programs, and certain edible food generators must recover excess edible food in their operations, and establish written agreements with food recovery organizations and services.
To assist with this, the City of Newport Beach will be working directly with affected local food-generating businesses to provide information and guidance on their edible food recovery. More information on edible food recovery can also be found here.
Those with immediate questions regarding edible food recovery, SB1383, or City refuse/environmental services in general, can contact staff at 949-644-3055, or by email at EnvironmentalServices@newportbeachca.gov.

West Nile Positive Mosquitoes Detected in Anaheim and Garden Grove |
|
|
The Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District has confirmed that mosquitoes collected in the cities of Anaheim and Garden Grove have tested positive for West Nile virus. These are the first samples to test positive in the county this year.
West Nile virus is primarily transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes, which acquire the virus when feeding on infected birds. At present, Orange County has not reported any human cases of West Nile virus.
While West Nile virus has not been detected in Newport Beach, vector control officials urged caution for all Orange County communities during the warm summer months.
To reduce risk, residents are advised to:
- Dump and drain containers holding water at least once a week.
- Clean and scrub bird baths and pet water bowls.
- Wear repellent containing DEET, Picaridin, IR3535, or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
- Close all unscreened doors and windows to prevent mosquitoes from entering your home or space; repair broken or damaged screens.
- Wear light-colored, loose-fitting, long-sleeved shirts, and long pants while outside at dawn and dusk.
