Community Members:
Because the July 4 holiday falls on a Friday, we are sending out the Week in Review a day early.
As the holiday approaches, please keep in mind:
- There will be several community-oriented activities in Newport Beach on the 4th of July, including the annual Newport Peninsula Bike Parade and Community Festival, the Old Glory Boat Parade, and the Newport Dunes fireworks extravaganza.
- The Newport Beach Police Department (NBPD) will be providing real-time event, traffic and safety information updates throughout the day. Text NBJULY4 to 65513 to receive the updates.
- Fireworks of all types are illegal in Newport Beach. To report the illegal use of fireworks, call the NBPD's non-emergency line at 949-644-3717 only if you know the exact location.
- Please remember to observe all posted traffic control and give way to pedestrians and bicyclists. Traffic entering the beach neighborhoods will be heavily congested and some roads will be closed. If you are inviting visitors to this area, please advise them to arrive early in the day to find legal parking.
- Safety Enhancement Zones will be in effect from 12:01 a.m. on July 4 to 3 a.m. on July 5 in Corona del Mar and the West Newport/Peninsula area. Fines within this area are triple the normal amount during this time frame and can be up to $3,000. Maps of the West Newport and Corona del Mar Safety Enhancement Zones are available on the City’s website.
- There will be no refuse pickup or street sweeping on the holiday. Trash and recycling collection scheduled for Friday will shift to Saturday, July 5.
For more July 4th event and safety information, please see the NBPD’s July 4 information page and community handout. Happy Independence Day!

The next meeting of the Newport Beach City Council will be on Tuesday, July 8 at 4 p.m. The full agenda is available here.
Agenda items include:
- A $135,000 agreement with Arts Orange County to manage Phase X of the Civic Center Park sculpture exhibition. The agreement includes project coordination and management fees, installation and de-installation fees. Arts Orange County has managed all previous phases of the ongoing public arts display, a primary feature of the Newport Beach Civic Center.
- Adoption of the updated 2025 Fire Hazard Severity Zone map as designated by the California Dept. of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE). The map update includes expanded Local Responsibility Area designations across 4.6 million Southern California acres. The maps help local agencies identify elevated wildfire risk areas and apply appropriate land use, mitigation and construction standards. Prior to Council consideration, the Newport Beach Fire Department posted the maps on the City's website for public review and comment, and hosted two community outreach events on the subject.
- Amended and restated employment agreements for Newport Beach's city manager and city attorney.
