TAKE NOTE

Implementation Plan Development Underway

In September, the ABAG Executive Board and Commission took action on the Plan Bay Area 2050 Final Blueprint’s Strategies and Growth Geographies, as well as the Regional Growth Forecast. As analysis wraps up on the Final Blueprint this fall, work has now begun on the Implementation Plan phase of the Plan Bay Area 2050 process. The Implementation Plan focuses in on the next five years with tangible actions for MTC, ABAG, and partners to advance each of the 35 Strategies in the Plan Bay Area 2050 Final Blueprint.

Continuing our unprecedented outreach efforts, a pair of two-hour stakeholder workshops were held in November. On November 17, the focus was housing and the economy. On November 19, transportation and the environment were the focus. Video recordings of the workshops are available on the Plan Bay Area 2050 Meetings and Events page under the “Past Events” tab.

Those workshops will be followed up by small group and one-on-one meetings in December and January, in addition to other public and stakeholder engagement opportunities during the winter. The Implementation Plan will return to the Regional Advisory Working Group (RAWG) and then MTC and ABAG committees in February.

Final Blueprint Release Expected This Month

With revisions to the Work From Home Strategy approved by the Commission in mid-November, analysis of the Final Blueprint is now wrapping up. The Final Blueprint analysis results are expected to be released in mid-December. Concurrently, the Association of Bay Area Government’s (ABAG) will issue its Draft Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA) Methodology that integrates Final Blueprint baseline data. In lieu of the December RAWG meeting, staff will host two webinars presenting, in detail, both the Final Blueprint and the Draft RHNA Methodology. Make sure to save the dates of December 18 and January 5 for these webinars; registration information will be sent out to Plan Bay Area 2050 stakeholders in the next few weeks.

Review this document to learn more about the 35 strategies as adopted, and be on the lookout for the Final Blueprint release on the Plan Bay Area 2050 Final Blueprint page in mid-December.

The MTC Commission and ABAG Executive Board are slated to consider adoption of the Final Blueprint as the Preferred Alternative for environmental analysis purposes in January 2021. The Draft RHNA Methodology, integrating Final Blueprint 2050 Households data, is also slated for approval in January.
