MTC   Apply Now for MTC’s Summer High School Internship Program
MTC is offering high school students in all nine counties of the Bay Area the opportunity this summer to gain professional experience in transportation planning, engineering and related fields. The internship program is now accepting applications for 34 paid summer jobs with a variety of public transit agencies, city planning departments and public works agencies throughout the region. MTC   MTC Pledges $10 Million to Preserve Affordable Housing
MTC has committed $10 million toward a new revolving loan fund known as the Bay Area Preservation Pilot Fund to help nonprofit developers finance the acquisition and preservation of existing multifamily housing properties that are located in areas with high-frequency transit service and are considered affordable for lower- and moderate-income renters. MTC   511 Phone Service Now Offered in Cantonese and Mandarin
Cantonese and Mandarin language options have been added to the Bay Area’s 511 phone system. This latest expansion of the toll-free 511 traveler information service allows Cantonese- and Mandarin-speaking drivers, carpoolers and transit riders to access key services to help them on their commutes and other journeys throughout the nine-county Bay Area. MTC   Youth Environmental Activism Shines at 2018 YES Conference
Young people from every corner of the Bay Area came together in Oakland on Saturday, February 24, to work for a greener, more environmentally focused future. The draw was the fifth annual Youth for the Environment and Sustainability (YES) Conference at Laney College. The regional conference doubled in size from last year, welcoming over 1,000 students from all nine counties. MORE
 
 
MTC   MTC Adopts 10-Year Investment Strategy for Goods Movement
The MTC Commission recently adopted an investment strategy for goods movement that will direct $3.8 billion over 10 years to 20 different projects in the Bay Area, with a particular focus on Interstate Corridors and the Port of Oakland in Alameda County. MORE
 
 
MTC   Grant Program Fuels 180 Projects Across the Region
Approximately $386 million in federal funds are set to go to 180 transportation projects in 95 jurisdictions across all nine Bay Area counties through MTC’s One Bay Area Grant 2 (OBAG 2) County Program. A majority of OBAG 2 County Program funds will be directed to active transportation projects including bicycle and pedestrian projects, Safe Routes to School, and Transportation for Livable Communities projects. MTC   Video: New BART Train Cars Are Rolling into Service
BART celebrated a major milestone recently as the long-awaited first new 10-car train began service in the East Bay on the Richmond line. As seen in this video from BART, the new cars are smoother and quieter, with quicker and easier boarding, six digital screens in each car, more comfortable seats, and more places to hang on. MORE
 
 
MTC   Video: Metro Talks Tackles Resiliency
All over the world, people are talking about how to prepare for rising sea levels, floods, fires and bizarre weather changes, all due to climate change. The fall 2017 program of the Bay Area Metro Center’s Metro Talks, always open to the public, featured top experts from California and around the world who talked about adaptation efforts, including the Bay Area's Resilient by Design exercise.
