Downtown Mountain View Gets Vibrant with Decorative Street Treatment Coming Soon
Installation of placemaking street feature to take place next month with minimal disruptions
Mountain View, Calif. — The heart of Downtown Mountain View is getting a glow up. On Tuesday, May 6, the City of Mountain View is scheduled to begin installing the “Ribbons” decorative street treatment on the 100, 200 and 300 blocks of Castro Street, weather permitting. The installation is expected to be completed within two weeks.
Painting of the new street treatment by the City’s licensed contractor will take place during standard weekday work hours, 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday – Friday. Only half a block of the central walkway will be closed at any given time during the installation period. Businesses are open throughout the project. Sidewalk access will also remain available.
The vibrant street enhancement to the central walkways will add color and visual interest to what’s called the Castro Pedestrian Mall. The placemaking project will contribute to the welcoming, pedestrian-friendly atmosphere of Downtown.
In early 2024, the “Ribbons” design concept was selected following presentations to the Visual Arts Committee and Council Transportation Committee. Both advisory bodies recommended the design for the new decorative street treatment with minor modifications.
