The City Council is Recruiting Applicants for the Planning Commission, Recreation and Parks Commission, and Tax Transparency Commission

The Planning Commission currently has a vacancy for the District 4 seat, the Recreation and Parks Commission has a vacancy for the District 3 seat, and the Tax Transparency Commission has vacancies for the District 3 and District 4 seats.

The Planning Commission holds public hearings to periodically update the City’s General Plan and to review applications for discretionary development within the City, including recommendations for projects requiring final City Council action. In doing so, it studies land subdivisions, planning, and zoning matters, and recommends to the City Council the adoption, amendment, or repeal of the City’s General Plan for the physical development of the City. The Planning Commission also serves as the Design Review/Historic Preservation Commission and as the Board of Zoning Adjustment. Regular meetings are held on the first and third Wednesdays each month at 6:00 PM.

The Recreation and Parks Commission serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council in all matters pertaining to recreation and parks; considers the annual budget for recreation and parks during the process of its preparation, and makes recommendations with respect thereto to the City Manager and to the City Council; and assists in the planning of a recreation program for the citizens of Merced. Regular meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 5:30 PM.

The Tax Transparency Commission reviews projected revenues created by all voter-approved general and special tax measures (currently Measure C and Measure Y). The Commission recommends proposed expenditures in compliance with each tax measure to City Council. Regular meetings are held the second Tuesday in February, May, August, and November at 6:00 PM. Appointments will be made by district.

Appointments will be made at the March 17th Council Meeting.
