Dear Southern Marin Friends and Neighbors,
As we head further into fall, there is a lot happening across Marin County and here in Southern Marin. At tomorrow’s Board of Supervisors meeting, the Board will consider a policy proposal related to federal immigration enforcement. You can read more about the proposal and how to participate in the Board meeting below.
Emergency preparedness also continues to be a top priority. In this edition of the Southern Marin Scoop, we’re sharing timely information about how the County and our local partners are preparing for rising king tides, winter storms, and a potential heavy El Niño—and how you can ready your household ahead of the rainy season. Our Southern Marin Winter Storm Preparation Town Hall is October 21, followed by the Flood Zone 4 (Bel Aire, Strawberry and Tiburon) meeting on October 27. I hope you’ll join us to hear directly from emergency and public officials about how we can best prepare ourselves and our communities for winter.
Beyond learning best practices to weather upcoming storms, District 3 continues to hold various community events including the Marin City Open House at the Southern Marin County Services Annex on November 4.
In District and County news, the Vista Point Trail adjacent to the Golden Gate Bridge opened for public use, improving pedestrian and cyclist safety on what’s known as Marin’s most dangerous mile along Alexander Avenue.
Additionally, as the election nears, ballots have been sent out, and official ballot drop boxes are now available.
There is a lot happening, so please read on for these updates, upcoming events, and ways to get involved. As always, thank you for staying connected and engaged with our Southern Marin community.
All my best, Stephanie

Supervisors to Consider Policy Proposal Related to Federal Immigration Enforcement
The County of Marin Board of Supervisors will consider a proposal at its Tuesday, October 20 Board meeting to prohibit the use of County property for certain federal immigration enforcement operations, protect confidential information and require reporting of interactions with federal immigration officials. The proposal comes amid increased federal immigration enforcement in Marin and nationwide, raising concerns about constitutional protections, due process and the impact on immigrant families. This action is consistent with the Board of Supervisors Resolution in January 2025 affirming its commitment to democracy, justice, equity and inclusion and reaffirm the county's core values ahead of the federal administration transition and to push back against potential federal policies targeting undocumented immigrants.
The Board of Supervisors meets on scheduled Tuesdays, at 9 a.m. unless otherwise stated in the posted agenda. Meetings are open to the public, and public participation is encouraged. Meetings are held in room 330 at the Marin County Civic Center, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael, and assistive listening is available in Board Chambers.
If you'd like to join the Board of Supervisors meeting, you can do so via zoom or by attending in person. Below is the link to view the meeting agenda, location, and zoom link.

SMART Train Survey: Where should the Healdsburg Station be located?
SMART is bringing passenger rail service back to Healdsburg for the first time in nearly 70 years. As planning advances, SMART is seeking public input on an important question: Where should the Healdsburg SMART station be located?
The Healdsburg station will serve both the local community and people traveling throughout the SMART system. Whether you live in Healdsburg, or plan to utilize the train to travel to or from Healdsburg for work, school, shopping, dining or recreation, we want to hear from you.
Please take a few minutes to complete the survey using the link below and share your thoughts. Your feedback will help SMART better understand community travel needs and preferences as we evaluate potential station locations.
We encourage everyone with an interest in the future of rail service in Healdsburg to participate in the survey. The two locations being considered are just 0.45 miles apart, but hold different characteristics related to surrounding land uses, sidewalk access, bus transit and local transportation connections, parking, future development opportunities and proximity to homes, jobs and destinations.

El Niño is a naturally occurring climate pattern involving warmer-than-average ocean temperatures in the tropical Pacific. It can influence weather around the world and has historically been associated with wetter conditions in parts of California. A strong El Niño can increase the potential for significant rainfall, but it cannot tell us exactly when or where individual storms will occur.
Marin could experience heavy rain and strong winds, high tides and coastal flooding, creeks and drainage systems filling quickly, downed trees and landslides, power outages, road flooding and travel disruptions, and back-to-back storm systems.

Vista Point Trail Opening
Before we closed the month of September, I attended the ceremonial opening of the Vista Point Trail at the Golden Gate Bridge alongside Congressman Huffman, Supervisor Rodoni, local elected officials, and transportation and environmental partners to celebrate the important advancement of public infrastructure. The trail enables cyclists and pedestrians to avoid Alexander Avenue, which is known as Marin’s most dangerous mile. The path is breathtaking, featuring beautiful sights of the Bay and I couldn’t be more thankful to all that supported this project. I hope our community and visitors alike will enjoy using this new scenic trail!
Marin City Fire Station Open House
On Sunday October 4th, I enjoyed visiting our Marin City Fire Station at their open house. It was wonderful getting to meet and chat with our local firefighters, tour the station and meet with community members.
Slow and Say Hello
On September 26th, I enjoyed getting out to the Slow and Say Hello event on Mill Valley’s Multi-Use Path. It was great seeing community members of all ages going outside and enjoying a beautiful day. Slow and Say Hello is an initiative that aims to educate users on responsible use and etiquette, as well as environmental protection on trails and paths in the area. This event was done in collaboration between Marin County Parks and Recreation, Marin County Sheriff's Department, Mill Valley Police Department, and the Marin Horse Counsel. Whether you’re a trail user or looking for a new cause to support, check out Safe Trail Marin’s website below for more opportunities to get involved.
