Dear Southern Marin Friends and Neighbors,
Summer is arriving in Southern Marin, bringing with it exciting opportunities to connect, celebrate, and shape the future of our community.
This month, I am especially pleased to invite you to the grand opening of the new Southern Marin County Services Annex in Marin City, a significant investment that will bring County services and resources closer to all Southern Marin residents. June also marks several important opportunities for civic engagement, including the County's public hearing on the proposed Fiscal Year 2026–28 Budget, June 8, and the Board's consideration of the former Seminary redevelopment proposal on June 9.
As we celebrate Juneteenth in Marin City and look ahead to the Marin County Fair and the many outdoor music series taking place throughout Southern Marin this summer, I hope you'll take time to enjoy the vibrant communities, parks, and cultural events that make our corner of Marin so special.
In this edition, you'll also find updates on regional transportation and infrastructure efforts, including advocacy work in Washington, D.C., progress on SMART rail expansion, and efforts to secure climate-resilient improvements for Highway 37. I've also included photos and highlights from recent community events, from Bike to Work/Wherever Day to Community Action Marin's 60th anniversary celebration.
Finally, I encourage you to take advantage of several opportunities to get involved, including participating in Marin County's new Participatory Budgeting program, applying for funding for one-time community projects, and sharing your input through the Southern Marin Fire District survey. Your ideas and engagement help guide our work and strengthen our communities.
Thank you for staying connected and engaged. I look forward to seeing many of you at community events throughout the summer.
All my best, Stephanie

County to Hold Public Hearing on Proposed Fiscal Year 2026–28 Budget, June 8
The Marin County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on the County’s proposed Fiscal Year 2026–28 Budget on Monday, June 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Residents are encouraged to attend and learn more about the County’s spending plan, priorities, and investments for the coming two years.
The proposed budget reflects the County’s continued commitment to responsible fiscal stewardship while funding essential services and advancing Board priorities, including affordable housing and homelessness response, emergency preparedness, climate resilience, racial equity, infrastructure improvements, and economic vitality.
Although Marin enters this budget cycle in a position of relative fiscal stability, the County is taking a cautious approach in light of economic uncertainty, rising costs, and potential impacts from changes in federal and state funding. The budget includes targeted investments to maintain critical services, support innovation, and strengthen long-term sustainability.
The proposal also highlights several countywide initiatives, including development of Marin’s first Countywide Strategic Plan in more than 25 years, a new County Workplan focused on cross-departmental collaboration, and a comprehensive Capital Improvement Program to guide future infrastructure investments.
Community participation is an important part of the budget process. Residents are invited to attend the hearing and provide input as the Board considers the proposed budget for adoption.
Supervisors to Consider Final Decision on Former Seminary Redevelopment, June 9
A major mixed-use residential and community-serving development in southern Marin County is scheduled for the Board of Supervisors’ June 9 agenda following more than a decade of planning and public input.
Scheduled for consideration are a public hearing and the approvals tied to a 337-unit proposal for the former Golden Gate Theological Seminary property on the unincorporated Strawberry peninsula, including the final environmental impact report (EIR), a master plan, and related land use permits.
After receiving input and a recommendation to approve the project by the Marin County Planning Commission in March, the Board will be the final decision maker on the county’s largest private development project in many years. All the details will be in the staff report prepared by the Marin County Community Development Agency (CDA). In addition to the staff report, a slide deck with more details will be published on the Board’s website as part of the regular agenda on the afternoon of Thursday, June 4.
The June 9 meeting will take place both online and in-person at the Board of Supervisors chamber, Suite 330, at the Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael. The North Coast Land Holdings hearing is scheduled first on the policy agenda and will take place after ceremonial items and the consent calendar, likely in the late morning.

Advocating for Bay Area Transportation Priorities in Washington, D.C.
In May, Supervisor Stephanie Moulton-Peters joined fellow Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) Commissioners and regional transportation leaders in Washington, D.C., for the MTC 2026 Advocacy Trip. During the visit, the delegation met with federal transportation officials, members of Congress, and policy advisors to discuss critical transportation investments and priorities for the Bay Area. The group toured the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's Metro Integrated Command and Communications Center, participated in discussions on transit operations and innovation, and met with California's congressional delegation to advocate for continued federal support for transit, infrastructure, and mobility projects. The trip provided an important opportunity to strengthen partnerships and advance transportation solutions that support Marin County and the broader Bay Area.
SMART Breaks Ground on Healdsburg Station Extension

Supervisor Stephanie Moulton-Peters joined fellow SMART Board members and local leaders to commemorate the project, which will extend Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit service north to Healdsburg by 2028. The new station will strengthen regional connectivity, support sustainable transportation options, and enhance access to jobs, housing, recreation, and tourism throughout the North Bay.

Advocating for Climate-Resilient Infrastructure on Highway 37
Supervisor Stephanie Moulton-Peters joined Congressmen John Garamendi and Mike Thompson, Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) leaders, labor representatives, and local elected officials along the Highway 37 corridor to support the introduction of the ADAPT Assets Act, federal legislation designed to accelerate investments in climate-resilient infrastructure nationwide.
The proposed legislation would establish a dedicated funding program to help communities protect critical transportation assets from flooding, sea level rise, wildfires, and other climate-related threats. For the North Bay, the bill could provide an important pathway to advance long-term resilience improvements along Highway 37, a vital transportation corridor that is increasingly vulnerable to flooding and rising sea levels.
As MTC Vice Chair, Supervisor Moulton-Peters emphasized the urgency of protecting Highway 37 and other essential transportation infrastructure to support residents, businesses, emergency response, and regional mobility. The ADAPT Assets Act would help communities across the country plan and deliver large-scale resilience projects while creating jobs and strengthening local economies.
Celebrating Bike to Work/Wherever Day 2026
Supervisor Stephanie Moulton-Peters joined cyclists, community members, and transportation advocates along the Mill Valley–Sausalito Multiuse Pathway to celebrate Bike to Work/Wherever Day 2026. The annual event highlights the many benefits of bicycling, including healthier lifestyles, reduced traffic congestion, and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
Throughout the morning, Supervisor Moulton-Peters met with constituents and riders traveling through one of Marin County’s most heavily used bicycle corridors, thanking them for choosing active transportation and discussing ongoing efforts to improve bicycle and pedestrian safety throughout the county. The event also recognized local champions of sustainable transportation and celebrated the strong community of residents who bike for commuting, recreation, and everyday trips.
Bike to Work/Wherever Day serves as a reminder of Marin’s commitment to expanding safe, accessible, and connected transportation options for residents of all ages and abilities.

Marin County Launches Participatory Budgeting — Share Your Ideas Today!
Participatory budgeting is back! The County of Marin is once again making $2.5 million available, and community members will decide how to spend the funds on equity-centered projects. This democratic process, known as Participatory Budgeting (PB), places decision-making power to allocate $2.5 million directly in the hands of community members.
Led by the County’s Office of Equity, Participatory Budgeting invites community members to brainstorm ideas to improve their community, turn those ideas into proposals, and vote to decide which proposals to fund.
