Words from Sheriff Scardina
As we welcome the New Year, I want to wish everyone a safe and happy start to 2026. This newsletter will highlight some events that closed out 2025 and will touch on a few upcoming events in the early part of this year. Our Annual Report will be out soon and will highlight the work our Department has done throughout 2025. Keep an eye out for this report, which provides more detail related to our staffing, budget, and connection with our community members.
As always, we are grateful for the support and donations that made our annual toy drive a huge success for all the community members who attended. The two events we hosted, in Pt Reyes and Marin City, provided hundreds of toys to children this holiday season.
It is my hope that you will share this newsletter with other community members, so everyone feels a deeper sense of connection with our Department and our staff who show up every day to help those within our County.

Armed Robbery Suspects Arrested
On November 16th 2025, Southern Marin Deputies received a report of a 13 year old who was robbed at gun point. According to the victim, they agreed to sell several designer shoes to a buyer they met through Instagram.
The juvenile met with the prospective buyer in a parking lot in Marin City with his older sister and her boyfriend. Upon arrival, the juvenile contacted two subjects. One of the subjects looked at the shoes, agreed to purchase them, and asked the juvenile if they had change. The juvenile said yes and pulled out cash to provide the buyer change to complete the transaction.

Toy Giveaway was a huge success!
The Marin County Sheriff’s Office and the Marin County Fire Department hosted a toy giveaway at the Marin City Sheriff and Fire Substation and the Point Reyes Sheriff and Fire Substation.
The event was a great success. Santa Claus made a special appearance and even had a chat with Sheriff Scardina about all of his Christmas wishes.
This event would not have been possible without the generous donations from many individuals and businesses throughout Marin County. It was wonderful to connect with the community and spend some time with Santa.
We would like to specifically thank the Marin County Fire Department, the Marin County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association, and the San Rafael Santa Cop for helping make this event one for the record books. It was such a joy seeing children pick out their special toy and share all of their wishes with Santa Claus. .

Case of the Quarter
The buyer took the cash and shoes and walked away without paying for them. The boyfriend chased after the suspect and kicked the shoes out of the suspects hands. After a brief argument, the suspect picked up the shoes as the other suspect produced a gun and fired a round into the air. The victims retreated to their car and responded to the Southern Marin Substation to report the robbery. One 9mm shell casing was recovered at the scene.
After an extensive investigation, Detectives were able to identify both suspects. One was a juvenile from Marin City, the other was a juvenile from San Rafael. An operation was planned to take both suspects into custody and serve search warrants at their residences. During the service of the search warrant, 3 out of the 4 stolen pairs of shoes were recovered and a loaded 9mm handgun was recovered. Both suspects were booked into Marin County Juvenile Hall. Investigation is continuing to see if the gun located at the residence matches the casing located at the scene of the robbery.
