Marin City Bus Shelters: That’s a Wrap!
Discover and learn about Marin City legacy through the Marin City Bus Shelter Art Project, now on display at bus shelters in Marin City.
As you make your way around Marin City, you will notice the bus shelters have a new look. In partnership between the Marin County Free Library, Marin County Office of Education, Dominican University, Marin Transit, Marin Community Foundation, Marin City Historical Preservation Society and the TomKat Foundation, the shelter walls now celebrate Marin City’s fascinating past.
This initiative, supported by local historian Felecia Gaston, aims to honor the approximately 20,000 African American workers who contributed to the shipbuilding efforts during World War II. The murals, displayed at five bus stations, tell personal stories from the Great Migration that shaped Marin City, showcasing themes of patriotism and perseverance.
James Shields, the muralist, was inspired to celebrate these Marin City pioneers and Marin City's proud past. It’s exciting to see these bus shelters used to share a piece of history. MORE INFO

Golden Gate Village Community Garden
From left: Ike Boatman (Boatman Community Garden), Joel Hazlett (Marin County Parks and Open Space), Alton Hardy (Boatman Community Garden), Kevin Wright (MCPOS) and Brian Bjork (MCPOS).
Ike Boatman and Alton Hardy, two of the dedicated caretakers of the Mattie and Clarence Boatman Community Garden at Golden Gate Village, continue to nurture not just plants, but community spirit. Thanks to the hard work of the many residents that care for the garden —and an assist from Marin County Parks and Open Space, which recently delivered four truckloads of fresh soil—the garden is humming.
Today, you can find chards, spinach, vibrant lettuces, pole beans working their way skyward, flourishing artichokes, and tomato plants looking strong. A big thank-you also goes out to Zero Waste Marin for their donation of the soil.
The garden, a great community asset, is open to volunteers daily after 9 a.m. Supervisor Moulton-Peters’ Aides enjoyed pulling weeds, shoveling dirt and meeting Alton and Ike, whose mother started the first community garden in Golden Gate Village. Come out and enjoy!

Continuing the cleanup efforts of Richardson Bay, scuba divers and technical experts removed an array of objects from the Eelgrass Protection Zone, which is now off-limits to anchoring.
“It’s great to see such meaningful progress in restoring the health of Richardson Bay,” said RBRA Board Member Stephanie Moulton-Peters, who also sits on the Marin County Board of Supervisors. “The removal of over two tons of debris from the Eelgrass Protection Zone is a major step toward protecting this vital habitat for generations to come.” MORE INFO
Ricardo Lane Sidewalk and Intersection Improvements in Strawberry
A project to improve safety around Strawberry Point Elementary School recently received approval for a grant from TAM’s Safe Pathways to School Program, which funds capital projects that are intended to enhance safety improvements for school trips from walking and biking. Although Safe Pathway projects target improvements around schools, they benefit the entire community, creating a safe network of bicycle and pedestrian facilities, enhancing safety, and reducing local congestion. The Safe Pathway Program provides funding for engineering, environmental clearance, and construction of pathway and sidewalk improvements.
Ricardo Lane sidewalk and intersection improvements include construction of a 6’ sidewalk on Ricardo Lane and intersection improvements including bulbed-out corners, crosswalks, and modified traffic controls at two intersections. The project will improve pedestrian safety and connectivity to Strawberry Point School on Ricardo Lane between and including its intersections with East Strawberry Drive and Richardson Drive/Ricardo Road, immediately west of Strawberry Point School. Bay Area Discovery Museum Visit
Recently, I was able to spend some time at the Bay Area Discovery Museum with a number of local elected officials. We are so fortunate to have this asset right here in Sausalito! People come to this museum from all over the Bay Area to enjoy the education and entertainment opportunities for children to explore, play and create; there are discovery zones for kids from 0 to 8 years of age. While inspiring a generation of children to create, the experience of shared play and discovery nurtures and deepens the parent-child relationship. MORE INFO
