Hello -
May is National Bike Month, and I am thrilled to hit the road again for Bike to Wherever Day on May 15. Formerly known as Bike to Work Day, this celebration encourages people across the Bay Area to leave their cars at home and discover the joys of biking to work, school, and everyday errands.

Last month we launched our second annual Spring Into Community, where we highlight some of the great work and initiatives our county departments are working on and how we (me and you!) can participate.
We’ve had two great events so far: a Black Point Boat Launch Spruce Up event, where a group of amazing volunteers put in some hard work doing landscape maintenance and litter pick up – and a great family story time event at the Novato Library.
We have two Spring Into Community events lined up this month: a Congregate Meal for our older adult population and an Energy Efficiency and Electrification Fair in downtown Novato (see below for the details). It would be great to see you at one of them!

* Join Us! Spring Into Community - May Events *
Congregate Lunch - Must be 60+ Years Thursday, May 8, 2025 Noon - 1:00 PM Margaret Todd Senior Center: 1560 Hill Rd, Novato Pre-Registration Required – Details below
If you are 60 years or older, I invite you to join me and my team for lunch at the Margaret Todd Senior Center on May 8. Also joining us will be City of Novato Mayor Tim O’Connor and District 5 Marin County Aging Commissioners Peter Rubens and Sylvia Barry.
Congregate Meals are provided at the Margaret Todd Senior Center every Tuesday and Thursday at noon. Meals are provided at no cost, although there is a voluntary contribution of $3.00 per meal.
To attend a congregate meal, you must make a reservation in advance. The deadline is the Thursday of the week before you plan to attend (if you would like to join us on May 8, the deadline to register is May 1). To sign up to attend a lunch event, call 415-473-INFO (4636).
The Congregate Meals program is administered by the Marin County Aging and Adult Services Team in partnership with Community Action Marin, who provides the meals for the lunches. With one of the largest populations of older adults in California, Aging and Adult Services is an important area of focus at the County and in Marin. This team provides services and supports for older adults and persons with disabilities to promote quality of life and independence – including nutrition services, and that’s where our Congregate Meals program comes in! At these lunches, older adults can enjoy a hot and nutritious meal, in a fun and social setting with others.

At our Board of Supervisors meeting last week, we adopted a resolution proclaiming May as Mental Health Awareness Month. Marin County Behavioral Health & Recovery Services, along with our community partners, are spreading awareness for better mental health and well-being in our county.
There are many free events hosted across the county all month long —from wellness days and storytelling to expert panels and mindfulness retreats. Check out all the offerings on our county website. Be sure to register for any and all events you’d like to attend.
Together, we can reduce stigma, share stories, and support one another in building a healthier, more inclusive Marin.

A landfill and recycling center may not be the first idea for a family fun day – but after touring the Redwood Landfill, I can recommend it!
The Redwood Landfill is hosting a Customer Appreciation Day on May 10, 2025. Enjoy free compost giveaways, grab a hotdog, and snap a photo of your kids as they admire some of the heavy equipment used at the site. One of the highlights is sure to be meeting the Redwood Landfill Falconer, a unique and exciting experience for children and curious adults alike (something I particularly enjoyed during my visit!).
For more details, contact Redwood Landfill and Recycling Center at (415) 408-9052.

The County of Marin has upgraded AlertMarin, its official emergency notification system that delivers critical, potentially life-saving information to the community. Residents and people who work in Marin are strongly encouraged to sign up at the Marin County Emergency Portal to receive important emergency alerts.
AlertMarin is now the single official emergency alerting tool used by the County’s Office of Emergency Management and all emergency response agencies countywide.
There has been some confusion about AlertMarin and Nixle, with many assuming they serve the same purpose. While some local cities or towns may still use Nixle for general updates like road closures or community announcements, only AlertMarin is designed to send real-time, targeted emergency alerts via phone call, text, and email - in multiple languages. To sign up, or to verify if you have an existing account, visit the AlertMarin website.
