My office is excited to announce County Services Closer to Home, a new initiative designed to make essential county services more accessible to residents in rural Marin County.
Starting January 8th, 2025, county departments will offer in-person assistance at the West Marin Multi-Services Center in Point Reyes Station every second Wednesday of the month, from 2:00 to 6:00 PM.
This initiative ensures residents in West Marin can access key government resources without traveling to the Civic Center. Participating departments will provide support and services tailored to the needs of our rural residents.
We want to ensure that this program reflects the community's needs. If there are specific services you'd like to see offered, please share your suggestions by contacting my staff.
Together, we’re bridging the gap between government and community.

On December 17th, the Department of Public Works, Office of the County Executive, Marin County Fire, Marin County Parks, the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, Department of Finance, and the Community Development Agency came together to ceremonially sign the Marin County Fire Headquarters Project Charter. This milestone represents a shared commitment to providing exceptional services that promote healthy, safe, sustainable, and equitable communities.
The charter underscores our dedication to collaboration and community engagement as we embark on the Marin County Fire Headquarters Project in San Geronimo. This initiative will establish a thoughtfully designed fire station and administrative facility, tailored to the community’s needs, to enhance public safety operations across Marin County.
Driven by the urgency to ensure continuity of critical fire services, the project focuses on improving emergency response efficiency, bolstering fire personnel training and development, and optimizing the use of the San Geronimo property. The design emphasizes flexibility, addressing immediate operational demands while accommodating future needs.
I invite you to explore the Charter, which outlines the guiding principles, key priorities, and deliverables that will shape this vital project. Together, we are building a foundation for stronger, safer communities.
The National Weather Service is forecasting a period of weather systems approaching this weekend that will bring unsettled weather to the region that are expected to saturate soil and create conditions for flooding. Now is the time to prepare for the coming storms:
-
Secure outdoor items: Tie down or bring in patio furniture, trash cans, and other loose items.
-
Clear drains: Rake leaves and yard debris to keep gutters and storm drains clear. Place leaves and debris in green bin.
-
Update your go bag & stay-box: Make sure you have flashlights, radios, spare batteries, and other essentials.
-
Sandbags: Use sandbags to protect flood-prone areas of your home or business.
-
Charge devices: Keep phones, backup batteries, and other electronics fully charged. Write down key emergency contacts in case your phone dies.
-
Houseboat safety: Secure your vessel against high winds.
-
Sign up for alerts: Register for emergency notifications at AlertMarin.
-
Plan ahead: Talk to your employer about working from home, especially if you live in an area prone to road flooding.
-
Stay home if possible: Avoid unnecessary travel; wet and flooded roads can be dangerous and can prevent you from getting to your destination. Staying home is the safest option until the storm passes. If its an emergency, allow emergency responders to come to you.
-
Drive carefully if you must go out: Go slow, keep headlights on, watch for obstacles, and leave extra space between vehicles. Do not drive through flooded areas or around barricades.
-
Turn around, don’t drown: Never attempt to walk or drive through standing water.
-
Stay clear of downed power lines: Treat all fallen power lines as live; call 9-1-1 to report them.
-
Mariners and houseboats: Stay in port. High winds and rough waters can damage or capsize vessels.
-
Remember to check in on your senior, immigrant, and disabled neighbors: they may need extra support to stay safe and comfortable.
