On Tuesday we celebrated Supervisor Katie Rice for her outstanding service, visionary leadership, and the lasting impact she’s made on Marin County as she prepares to retire from the Board of Supervisors this month.
Katie’s 20-year journey with the County—starting as Aide to Supervisor Hal Brown and continuing as District 2 Supervisor since 2011—has been nothing short of impactful. She tackled everything from the Marin County Restrictive Covenant Project to the Marin Wildfire Protection Authority and even brought us Marin County’s first regional flood notification system.
Katie engaged with her community and brought thoughtfulness to every decision she made. Her pragmatic leadership style, flexibility, and sense of humor made her a joy to work with, and I for one will miss my fellow sweet tooth pal.
We wish Katie all the best in her next chapter and thank her for her 20 years of extraordinary public service!

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Novato City Council meeting for the council re-organization. It provided an opportunity to celebrate new leadership and recognize the dedicated service of our councilmembers.
I want to thank outgoing Councilmember Susan Wernick for her many years of service, dedication, and commitment to Novato. Susan was elected to the Novato City Council in 2019, serving as Mayor in 2023. Prior to being elected to the council, she served on the Planning Commission for five years.
Congratulations to newly elected Councilmember Kevin Jacobs and returning Councilmembers Mark Milberg and Tim O’Connor who were sworn in December 10. Tim O’Connor was selected to serve as Mayor and Rachel Farac as Mayor Pro Tem. I also want to appreciate Councilmember Eklund for her long-standing service on the council.
We are fortunate to have this great team of councilmembers serving our city, and I look forward to working with them on issues important to the Novato community.
