Counterfeit Pills, Fentanyl located in shipment from United Kingdom
In the month of July, Homeland Security intercepted a package shipped from the United Kingdom bound for the City of Novato. The package was found to contain various controlled substance pills, including fentanyl.
The Marin County Sheriff's Office assumed the investigation and conducted a search warrant at the residence the package was bound for. As a result of the search warrant, Detectives seized over 9,400 illegal pills, most of which are suspected to be counterfeit fentanyl pills.
Detectives also seized suspected cocaine, ketamine, amphetamines, psilocybin mushrooms, heroin and various other types of drugs.

Eyes up, Marin
Let's make our streets safe for everyone!
From mid-October through the end of November, you’ll see bright and colorful banners and lawn signs popping up all over Marin asking people to keep their “Eyes Up” and be alert. These signs will be asking drivers to slow down, watch when turning and look for pedestrians in the crosswalk; bicyclists to yield to pedestrians and to follow the rules of the road; And those walking to pay attention when crossing the street.
These messages will also show up in your social media feeds, and you can find them at www.streetsmartmarin.org. Please share with your friends, family and co-workers!
The Eyes Up, Marin Campaign is part of the Street Smarts Program and Safe Routes to Schools, locally funded programs of the Transportation Authority of Marin.

1973 Cold Case Homicide Case Investigations Solved By DNA - Subject Arrested In Idaho
In November of 1973, Nina Fischer, a Swedish national, was sexually assaulted and murdered in her unincorporated San Rafael home during the day while her husband was away at work. The case was investigated but eventually, unfortunately, went cold due to a lack of investigative leads.
In 2021, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division sent the case to the California Department of Justice’s Familial Search Program for assistance in creating investigative leads. After several months, the California Department of Justice’s Familial Search Program provided the Marin County Sheriff’s Office with an investigative lead. An in-depth investigation was conducted over the next three years to confirm the investigative lead and the suspect was identified as Michael Eugene Mullen, a resident of Idaho. On August 14, 2024, Investigators from the Marin County Sheriff’s Office and Marin County District Attorney’s Office assisted the Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office and Idaho State Police with the arrest of 75-year-old Michael Eugene Mullen for the murder of Nina Fischer. Mullen was transported to Lemhi County Jail and booked pending court proceedings for his extradition to California. The Marin County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Idaho State Police, Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office, Marin County District Attorney’s Office, California Department of Justice, and Federal Bureau of Investigation for the countless investigative hours and perseverance to bring closure to this case.

Case of the Quarter
There has been a nationwide surge in counterfeit pills that are mass produced in labs, deceptively marketed as legitimate, and are killing Americans at an unprecedented rate. This seizure could have potentially saved numerous lives and the Marin County Specialized Investigative Unit is dedicated to keeping these pills of the streets
While some people knowingly consume fentanyl, many people do not know if the drugs they plan to use contain fentanyl. This is especially true of illicit counterfeit pills, which are often made to resemble prescription medications such as oxycodone or benzodiazepines, but really contain fentanyl. Fentanyl is about 50 times more potent than heroin and a lethal dose may be as small as two milligrams.
