Southern Marin Scoop - June 2024 |
|
Dear Friends and Neighbors in Southern Marin
As we honor the significance of Juneteenth, I wanted to invite you to a series of meaningful and engaging events in our community. These events not only celebrate our shared history but also provide opportunities for us to come together, learn, and grow.
Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, marks the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Texas were informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This day represents a pivotal moment in American history, highlighting the resilience and enduring spirit of African Americans. It serves as a reminder of our ongoing journey towards equality and justice for all.
On another note, I hope you will join me and the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District at a Community Open House to help guide the design of the new transit center in downtown San Rafael, June 25, as well as at the Marin Housing Authority, Golden Gate Village and Burbank Housing Community Event on June 29 to talk about the renovation of Marin City's Golden Gate Village. Finally, Fire Safe Marin is hosting a Wildfire Watch TV Special about Home Insurance on Monday, June 17. Be sure to tune in.
I have also shared images from some of the events my district aides and I have been fortunate to attend over the past few weeks. Spring is festive time in Marin, and I hope we are able to connect over the summer months. Please contact my office if you have any questions.
All the Best, Stephanie

I was fortunate to take part in one of the Outdoor Art Club's Speaker Series' presentations to discuss flood control concerns for Marin County, specifically Mill Valley and Southern Marin. The effects of climate change, including more frequent and intense storms, sea-level rise, and changing precipitation patterns, pose additional challenges for managing flood risks. The county continues to adapt its strategies, working towards sustainable solutions and collaborating with regional and state agencies to mitigate the impact of flooding on the community. Flooding at Manzanita, the Highway 1 exit and Marin City as well as other relevant issues were discussed.
