Words from Sheriff Scardina
Hello. We hope you enjoyed the first edition of the Marin County Sheriff's Office newsletter last quarter. Our newsletter reached over 73,000 residents. Please feel free to pass this on to other community members who would like to know what is going on with the Sheriff's Office.
As Sheriff, I am often asked, “How is your staffing?”. I am pleased to report that at the time of this newsletter, we are fully staffed at the Deputy Sheriff level. This is great news for the community we serve. We will continue to have this position open and available for continuous hiring, as deputies are periodically retiring or unfortunately, move out of the area and seek employment elsewhere. We have several professional staff positions that can be viewed by clicking the Job Listings button below.
Thank you to all the community members who have stopped and joined us at our Coffee with a Cop locations throughout the County. I enjoy our conversations and learning how we can better serve you. Please enjoy our latest edition and have a wonderful summer!

Residential Burglaries
Multiple Arrested
Between May 4, 2024, and May 20, 2024, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) took nine residential burglary reports. Five of the burglaries shared a similar modius operandi (MO) and three of the burglaries were occupied by the resident.
On May 20, 2024, two suspects entered a residence at 45 Corona in Lagunitas. The suspects fled once they saw the resident. The resident responded by chasing and capturing one of the suspects, while the other suspect fled in a sliver Ford driven by a third suspect. MCSO patrol deputies arrived on scene and took custody of one of the suspects and broadcasted the description of the other fleeing suspects and vehicle.

988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
When people are suffering from a mental health crisis, Deputies work to assist in any way that we can. Our staff is specially trained in de-escelation techniques and we partner with the Marin County Crisis Stabilization Unit.
Sometimes, calling 911 may not be needed, and you may need someone to talk to in your time of need. 988 is a program you can call or text to assist with resources during a mental health crisis. Our patrol vehicles will now have a 988 sticker on them as a way to help remind people that help is out there, whether its by calling for law enforcement assistance or calling the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

Jail Reunification Program
To be eligible for the program, individuals must meet specific criteria, including enrollment in the Parenting Inside Out program, having less than six months left to serve, and maintaining good behavior and standing with jail staff. Applicants must not have been charged with violent crimes or have active restraining orders, and they must provide legal proof of their relationship with their dependents.
The application process involves submitting a request form to the Jail Re-Entry team, completing a detailed application, and undergoing a thorough eligibility verification process. Our hope is that as the program grows, this will allow parents to be better equipped to navigate life both as a parent, but more importantly as a productive member of society, thus reducing the likelihood of recidivism.

Case of the Quarter
Shortly afterwards, a citizen observed a reckless driver in the area of Fairfax and reported it to be a silver Ford. When the reckless vehicle stopped at a redlight, the caller observed one of the occupants exit the vehicle briefly and then reenter the vehicle. The vehicle continued driving but was soon located by the Central Marin Police Authority (CMPA) and an enforcement stop was conducted by CMPA. During the traffic stop, one of the suspects fled. An extensive search of the surrounding neighborhood was conducted with the assistance of the San Rafael Police Department, CMPA, Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Helicopter Henry 1, and MCSO deputies and the MCSO small unmanned aircraft systems. The suspect eluded capture.
The driver was contacted and arrested by MCSO patrol. Through an extensive investigation, all three suspects were identified, to include: Shalaya Cherry from Marin City; Clarissa Anderson, from North Carolina; and Emani Gordon, from Fairfield (prior Marin City). Several search warrants were obtained for cellphones and cellphone providers which produced evidence to tie the suspects to various residential burglaries. Three of the cases have been filed and the other two are being assigned to a DDA. There is an overwhelming amount of evidence that implicates the suspects in each of the burglaries. These cases were a success and an example of partnership among patrol, allied agencies, investigations, the community, and the district attorney’s office.
