Dear Friends and Neighbors in Southern Marin,
I wanted to share information about an exciting Caltrans project that will address areas in Southern Marin that have faced intractable flooding over the years that will worsen with rising seas.
It is known that Marin County will be one of the first Bay Area counties to experience the impacts of seal level rise, so it's important to begin to assess options and alternatives to address these impacts.
This online public meeting will be an opportunity for Caltrans to listen to our communities, discuss what we know about current local flooding and projected impacts of sea level rise, and also learn about what the communities value in the natural and built environment that Caltrans will need to take into consideration as they develop the possible long-term designs and alternatives.
In early community meetings, there may be an opportunity to see some of the initial, high-level concepts that Caltrans is considering for Hwy 101 and Hwy 1, but this is the early stage of the project planning process and there will be many more opportunities for the community to weigh in on the long-term solutions.
As many of you know, I have been working on sea level rise issues for quite some time and look forward to working together on this project. I hope you attend the upcoming online meeting hosted by Caltrans on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 6 p.m. See below for details about this online meeting.
I hope to see you there, Stephanie
