I want to inform you of a controlled burn scheduled in Novato beginning tomorrow and continuing through Thursday, October 5. It is expected to release smoke that will be in full view of anyone in or near Novato and the northern San Rafael area.
We want to get the word out to put residents at ease and ask the community to refrain from calling 911 if they see smoke from the burn area. The 200-acre operation is a fire fuel reduction effort. The vegetation management work will take place on private property known as H Ranch.
The participating agencies, the Marin County Fire Department, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), and the Novato Fire Protection District, are looking to take advantage of favorable weather conditions and available fire resources to achieve fuel management goals through prescribed fires. This multi-year project will make it easier for firefighters to protect the surrounding populated areas and lessen any possible future impacts to the community.
Controlled burns help prevent high-intensity wildfires by reducing the volume and continuity of wildland vegetation.
