September is National Preparedness Month

Our hearts go out to the people in Maui after a wildfire ripped through Lahaina on August 8, 2023. The speed and scale of the fire demonstrate the destructive force of wildfires today and serve as a warning to fire-prone areas such as Marin. It could happen here and we need to be ready! In this Special Edition of Wildfire Watch, local experts talk about what happened in Maui and what we are doing in Marin to lower our risks and keep people safe. Tiburon Chipper/Vegetation Removal Event. September 9, 2023

Residents in Strawberry are welcome and encouraged to utilize Tiburon Fire District's Chipper Program for vegetation cuttings which are piled for chipper removal courtesy of Tiburon Fire Prevention Staff and the Town of Tiburon Public Works equipment. Not located in Strawberry but interested in the Chipper Program? Southern Marin Fire District residents are welcome to participate in SMFD's FREE Chipper Program. |

Marin City Sausalito Wellness Day, Sept. 10
Join me at the Marin City Sausalito Wellness Day this Sunday.
Marin Health and Human Services, the City of Sausalito, and Golden Gate Village will host a free Wellness Day in the park at 100 Drake Avenue from noon to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 10.
Attractions include food, games, fitness demonstrations, Zumba, extreme hip-hop, kids' activities, booths from local businesses and nonprofits, and more. All are welcome.

Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival Promotes Next Generation of Artists

The 66th Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival, one of the oldest art festivals in California with a rich tradition of celebrating local and Bay Area artists, will take place among the majestic redwoods of Old Mill Park through the weekend of September Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th.
The festival remains one of the oldest art festivals in California with a rich tradition of bringing curated handmade art and culture to a magical setting in the heart of Mill Valley. This year, the festival is focused on evolution and uplifting the next generation of young artists and art lovers. MORE INFO

California Coastal Cleanup Day, Sept. 23
Join the 39th California Coastal Cleanup Day, the state's largest annual volunteer event! It's a chance for everyone, no matter where they live, to help clean up trash from our environment before the rains come and wash it out to the coast and ocean. Participating is easy! Please check the map for cleanup sites you want to join. There are several locations to choose from in Southern Marin.
More than 3,800 pounds of trash and 667 pounds of recyclable materials were collected by 852 volunteers at 51 sites during the 2022 Marin Coastal Cleanup Day. Have Fun, Be Safe, and Thanks for Participating! MORE INFO

Marin City Job and Resource Fair, Sept. 26
The 4th Annual Marin City Job and Resource Fair will take place on Tuesday, September 26th from 3-7 p.m. at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Marin City. Event organizers are currently seeking job and resource seekers, employers and resource providers for the event. This hybrid event can be accessed both in person and online. Storm-Related Financial Relief Available in Marin Marin County residents, business owners, and nonprofit managers may be eligible for newly available low-interest loans if storms earlier this year created financial hardships.
County Appoints Permit Ombudsperson A major customer service improvement has debuted at the County of Marin with the appointment of a dedicated specialist poised to assist those seeking a building permit from the Community Development Agency (CDA). The newly established position will play a pivotal role in improving internal processes, addressing concerns, and providing guidance to ensure compliance with regulations.
Parks Seeks Two Representatives for Committee The Marin County Parks Measure A Community Oversight Committee is seeking two volunteers to help monitor the use of revenue from a quarter-cent countywide sales tax that supports parks, open spaces, sustainable agriculture, and recreation in Marin’s municipalities and unincorporated areas.
Cleaner California Coast Initiative Launches The counties of Marin, Sonoma, and Mendocino, along with the Leave No Trace[External] organization, have launched a collaborative initiative to help coast-seeking visitors contribute to a Cleaner California Coast.The Cleaner California Coast[External] initiative seeks to lessen coastal pollution by reducing litter through a coordinated messaging campaign focused on community and visitor outreach, education, and training.
