Southern Marin Scoop - August 11, 2023 |
|
Dear Friends and Neighbors in Southern Marin,
Welcome to the latest edition of the Southern Marin Scoop. As your Southern Marin County Supervisor, I would like to share some news and upcoming community events.
I am happy to announce a collaboration between the Marin Gateway Center and the Sausalito Marin City School District Community School, as the shopping center will provide supplies to students for the upcoming school year at an event tomorrow, Aug. 12, and promote the Community Schools Initiative.
I hope you join me at Tam Valley’s Creekside Friday Concert Series this evening, a cherished tradition that brings friends, families, and neighbors together. I am excited to sponsor the musical talent, Marble Party, this evening, and I hope to see you there.
Later this month, I will attend Strawberry Recreation District's Strawberry Community Night on Aug. 22 and look forward to meeting with community members. My District Aides Jen and Doreen and I are looking forward to seeing everyone again this year at our table at the event.
I would also like to extend an invitation to you for a vital and informative event that concerns the well-being of our elders. Please sign up to attend the upcoming Elder Fraud Community Summit on Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. at the Mill Valley Recreation Center, where experts in the field will address the pressing issue of elder fraud and explore ways to protect our senior community members.
In addition, I’ve included a list of upcoming summer concert series events throughout the district. I am grateful for the sense of unity that defines our various communities. The collective efforts of our local businesses, schools, and individuals showcase the unwavering commitment to making Marin County a vibrant and nurturing place to call home.
As always, my team and I are here to listen, assist, and support you in any way we can. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions.
All the Best, Stephanie

Marin Gateway Center Celebrates the Community School Initiative
and Adds Exciting New Tenants
The Marin Gateway Center is proudly partnering with the Sausalito Marin City School District and their Community School Initiative celebration on Saturday, August 12th. The event will take place at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Academy, Phillips campus, from 12-2 p.m. It will then move to the Marin Gateway Center where additional prizes will be distributed at various locations throughout the Center. The celebration will provide supplies to students for the upcoming school year and promote the Community Schools Initiative.
The Community School model is designed to organize the collective impact school sites, community members, organizations and families make toward student achievement. Their initiatives focus on ways to engage a school’s parent community outside the classrooms by offering a range of leadership groups, trainings, counseling and health support services for the whole family. It is also a means to encourage better school attendance amongst students.
“It is incredibly exciting to partner with the Marin City School District on this highly impactful initiative,” said Colby Young, Vice President, Asset Management for Gerrity. “It has always been the goal of the Marin Gateway Center to be deeply involved in the community and this event is a great way we can support the families who shop here.”
Marin Gateway Center is also pleased to announce the addition of five new tenants that will continue the commitment of offering a family friendly gathering space for the local neighborhood. The first of these was Paw Palace Grooming which opened last year and has been very popular. The Brazilian Steakhouse Show de Carnes opened earlier this year and has drawn rave reviews from the locals. In fall Grocery Outlet will be opening its doors in the former CVS location along with Salons by JC. In November Jet Physio Therapy will join the Center. All of these tenants bring a unique contribution to the area and expand on the offerings of the Marin Gateway Center.
“The vision we have for the Marin Gateway Center is simple, we would like to make the Center a destination for the community, and we feel these new tenants contribute to this goal,” said Colby Young. “The Center is in one of the most beautiful places in the world and we would like to celebrate this with the neighborhood we reside within.” MORE INFO
