Marin Schools Strive for Zero Waste
During the 2022-23 school year, the Zero Waste Marin Schools Program provided support to schools across Marin County to continue their efforts to reduce landfill waste on campus. Schools enrolled in the program participated in assemblies, waste audits, and educational initiatives led by student Green Teams and clubs focused on helping peers recycle and compost correctly. One school Green Team even presented to their District Board about their work to reduce waste at their school and the results of their efforts!
14 schools were certified in our Zero Waste Schools Certification process, which recognizes the hard work of these campuses. This year we had our first school achieve platinum certification, the highest tier in our program! Congratulations to all of the schools in our program on their hard work. We look forward to working with you again in the 2023-24 school year!

Commit to Reusables
Did you know that 40% of the plastic we make each year is for single-use products, which are only used for hours or even minutes? And many of these products are not recyclable: coffee cups, plastic drink cups, and many takeout containers cannot be recycled or composted.
Commit to remembering to bring your reusable coffee cups, water bottles, utensils, and bags to stem the tide of single-use products. And visit our website to learn more about Marin County's new Reusable Foodware Ordinance.

Reduce Food Waste to Shrink Your Climate Impact
Did you know that 30-40% of the food we produce globally is never eaten by anyone? This results in a significant waste of the energy, water, and resources used to grow this food.
Commit to reducing food waste in your household by having a plan to use the food you buy, finishing leftovers, and storing ingredients properly. For tips on how to reduce food waste in your household, visit the Food Waste page on our website.
