It has been a productive and rewarding first seven weeks as your County Supervisor!
I have enjoyed the opportunity to connect with both constituents and internal county departments and teams. It has been inspirational to tour several phenomenal nonprofits in our community - thank you Community Action Marin, Marin YMCA, Marin Foster Care Association, Marin Childcare Council, and Ritter Center!
I have also enjoyed attending a variety of community events. Many of our treasured annual events are back in full swing after taking some years off due to the pandemic.

It was an honor to celebrate and acknowledge individuals who have overcome great obstacles and persevered at both the Marin Veterans Treatment Court Graduation and the Marin County Probation Wall of Change Ceremony. I highly recommend attending these events in the future!
The Novato Chambers Honors Dinner proved to be as great as ever. A big congratulations to this year’s awardees: Large Business of the Year, Conservation Corps North Bay; Small Business of the Year, Miann Builder; and Micro Business of the Year, The Bay Fitness.
And, finally, a big recognition for my friend Ann Munene who was awarded the Ann Diamond Young Lawyer Award at the Marin County Bar Association Installation Reception earlier this month for her commitment to providing legal services to underserved communities. Thank you, Ann, for all the great work you do for our community.
As we look ahead to week eight and beyond, I look forward to continuing to connect and collaborate with you!

Supporting children in foster care and the families that nurture and care for these youth is a priority of mine. My team and I had the opportunity to learn more about the Marin Foster Care Association (MCFA) and tour their fully stocked Community Resource Center.
The mission of the MFCA is to provide comprehensive resources that inspire and empower the foster care community. Their programs directly impact the well-being of high-risk children and youth, provide essential support to resource families/foster families, and address community-wide systemic needs to improve outcomes for children in foster care.
MFCA’s Opportunity Project provides grants for items such as eyeglasses, clothing, and supplies to ease a child’s transition into a new home and school. The project also funds extracurricular activities that offer foster youth equal opportunity to thrive. In addition, they provide special support for youth aging out of foster care, including automobiles and housing, continuing education assistance, and one-on-one coaching to guide them on their path to independence.
One way to support the foster care community is through the MFCA’s Community Resource Center in San Rafael. The center has every item a child needs to find comfort in a new home, all generously donated by the Marin community and available at no cost to children and resource families/foster families.
The resource center currently needs new or gently used clothing sizes 2T-14/16 (especially for girls), convertible car seats, sippy cups, and pack-n-play sheets.

Marin Transit is proposing changes to bus routes and schedules to better align service with current ridership demands and improve the use of Marin Transit resources. The proposed changes would allow most riders to be able to make the same trips they do today but may require some riders to adjust which routes they take, the time of their travel, or make transfers to reach their destination.
We want to hear from you! Please visit the Marin Transit website to review the proposed changes and provide input to ensure that our public transit services meet the needs of our community.
On March 6, 2023 at 10:00am the Marin Transit Board of Directors will hold a public hearing on the proposed changes at the Marin County Civic Center. The public can also attend virtually via Zoom or by calling (669) 900-6833 (Meeting ID: 879-7268-3373).

District 5 is looking for community members who want to participate and engage with County government through service on a Board or Commission. Board and Commission members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors and serve in an advisory role to help direct policy by providing important review and recommendations.
One of the vacancies we currently have in District 5 is for a seat on the Marin County Planning Commission. This seat is open to any resident in the District 5 Supervisorial District. The Planning Commission serves as an advisory body to the Board of Supervisors on planning policies and regulations, and also renders decisions on appeals of planning permits. The Planning Commission holds public hearings, typically on the second and fourth Mondays of the month at 1:00pm. Visit the County website to apply.
A complete list of all District 5 openings and vacancies can be found on the County website.

Did you know one-time funding allocations, between $1,000-$10,000, are available to nonprofits and other government entities through the County of Marin’s Community Service Fund Program? Program guidelines are available, and the application is now open. The application period closes March 31, 2023.
Please share this information with local community-based organizations that might benefit from funding for a one-time project or emergency need.
