RICHARDSON BAY RESILIENCE STORY MAP:
AN INTERACTIVE LOOK AT LOCAL SEA LEVEL RISE IMPACTS
Please Share Widely:
Dear Southern Marin Friends,
I am excited to share a new resource with you: the Richardson Bay Resilience story map. This interactive website answers the question "What is the County of Marin doing to plan for the impacts of climate-induced sea level rise and flooding?"
The focus is on Southern Marin and the communities surrounding Richardson Bay in particular. But we all know that Sea Level Rise (SLR) will impact all of us in Southern Marin, no matter where we live, work, and recreate. SLR has implications for our homes, local businesses, the viability of our roads, access to emergency services, and more.
As you scroll through the site, you'll see videos, photos, charts, and maps. And you'll receive vital answers to key questions, and be able to provide your own insights and feedback:
-
“WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW?” gives an overview of flooding today and anticipated SLR projections.
-
“HOW WILL SLR IMPACT US?” dives into various impacts beyond the shoreline and asks you to share where you've experienced flooding impacts.
-
“WHAT'S BEEN STUDIED?” summarizes recent and ongoing studies led by various county agencies.
-
“WHAT'S POSSIBLE?” looks at a few of the well-known problem areas and collects potential adaptation strategies for each location.
- Finally, “WHAT DO YOU THINK?” provides an opportunity for additional community feedback and resources related to SLR impacts.
I encourage you to take a few minutes to look at the story map, share it with your friends, family, and neighbors, and think about what you can do to begin to prepare.

4. I'd like to hear from you! Please let me know if planning for local sea level rise impacts is important to you, and why or why not. Do you have ideas about how we can engage our community to plan for these impacts? What are you seeing in other parts of the U.S. and abroad in terms of how sea level rise and flooding impacts are being effectively communicated? I look forward to hearing from you!
