AND AFTER THAT TAKE A WELL-EARNED WALK ON THE BAY TRAIL

Even during our continued Shelter in Place, I’m gratified to hear from residents wanting to do something constructive to help contribute to their communities. People are stepping up to volunteer for countywide boards and commissions, tutor students via Zoom, check on older adults by telephone, help deliver meals to the sick and homebound, and sign up to be block captains for Neighborhood Response Groups (NRGs). The commitment and energy is inspiring. If you’ve got time to invest, read here about ways to support climate action, local business, family and community emergency readiness, and physical health and wellness. We come together in challenging times and support one another in large and small ways like these.
The County of Marin is in the process of developing goals and measures for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in unincorporated Marin County through the year 2030. The Draft Climate Action Plan update has been posted for public comment, and there will be a public workshop this evening, Monday, October 12, 6:30-7:30pm. County staff will present information on the Plan's greenhouse gas emissions inventory, draft reduction goals, and proposed measures. There will be time for attendees to submit written questions and comments. The public, including business leaders, are encouraged to participate and share feedback. Please register here in advance of the event. |

Due to COVID-19, businesses have adopted necessary health and safety precautions like temporarily banning the use of customers' reusable shopping bags and coffee mugs. For many, this has raised concerns about excess waste during the pandemic.
In response, the California Green Business Network (CAGBN) will be presenting solutions to help businesses reduce, reuse, and recycle during these challenging times in the upcoming Reduce and Recycling During COVID-19 webinar on October 13, 10:00-11:00am. The event will include presentations by waste management experts, case studies on local businesses, and updates for the food service industry. The Business Recovery & Resilience webinar series has provided free, ongoing support to California businesses throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Register today!

Due to the devastating COVID-19 pandemic, small businesses have been experiencing tough economic pressures, making it difficult to invest in energy-saving upgrades that lower utility bills and maintenance costs. The Bay Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN) and nonprofit Mission Asset Fund (MAF) have partnered to help Bay Area businesses access energy efficient upgrades.
The Microloan Program offers 0% interest loans, ranging from $500 to $2,500, to cover the cost of certified energy saving improvements. ENERGY STAR certified equipment, lights, and air purifiers are among the eligible upgrades.
Start the simple microloan application process today and you could get approved in as little as 1-2 business days. Visit missionassetfund.org/bayren to learn more.

On September 30, I joined Senator Mike McGuire and a panel of experts for the Southern Marin Climate & Fire Preparedness Town Hall.
We had a great a discussion, covering:
- How climate change is making our summer and fall temperatures hotter, wildfire season longer, and fires larger;
- How you can become better prepared; and
- What the state is doing to continue its leadership combatting climate change and investing in wildfire prevention and response.
If you missed this great event, fear not! You can watch the recording at your leisure. It's well worth watching!
Take a moment to get outside to enjoy nature safely this Fall, and celebrate the Fifth Annual Bay Day throughout the month of October!
You can register to take the Bay Trail Challenge and walk, cycle or jog on the San Francisco Bay Trail.
Even in a pandemic, we can continue to celebrate the beauty and diversity that exists throughout the region. There are two ways to participate and more than 350 miles of open space and trails to explore. Choose the one that works best for you and yours:
|
- COMPLETE 25 MILES: Walk, bike, run, wheel, or paddle the San Francisco Bay Trail. You have a full month to explore and choose when and where you want to go.
- CHOOSE 5 ADVENTURES: Whether you're kite flying, picnicking, listening to audio tours, or doing something else that inspires you, you can discover the Bay wherever you are.
Register here! Sign-up to take the Bay Trail Challenge and be eligible to win prizes throughout October.
Save The Bay urges everyone to #RecreateResponsilby. Before you head out on your Bay Trail Challenge, grab your mask, water, snacks and maintain respectful distances while out exploring the trails. Don’t forget to tag your adventure with #SFBayDay #BayTrailChallenge @savesfbay.
