Door tags are used to provide notifications to customers and are typically the final notification for issues like non-payment, a broken sprinkler that needs repair, a planned shutdown for a neighborhood, or even the installation of a flow restriction device for continued wasteful water use. Door tags are typically left on a customer’s front doorknob, doorstep, or front driveway gate.
LVMWD always seeks ways to optimize efficiency. The latest effort involves transitioning to FedEx to deliver door tags in lieu of using highly trained field operators. This change allows for the field operators to focus on other areas that need attention, such as inspecting and replacing broken meters, meter boxes, and attending to other critical equipment such as pressure regulators. This effectively circumvents the need to hire more operators to execute work that would otherwise fall by the wayside. Ultimately, efficiency improvements like this will keep costs down, saving tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars every year to help to keep water and wastewater rates affordable.
LVMWD Field Operation Technicians issued around 1,800 door tags in 2023 at a cost of $201,600. With the new service, issuing the same number of door tags will cost an estimated $90,000.00 – an annual savings of $111,600.
