Grant Details
The Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) offers the Reusable Beverage Containers Infrastructure Grant Program pursuant to Assembly Bill (AB) 179 (Chapter 249, Ting, Budget Act of 2022). The purpose of the grant is to provide infrastructure and start-up costs for establishing a Bottle Washer Processor for glass reusable containers in the Beverage Container Recycling Program pursuant to Section 14539 of the Public Resources Code.
We anticipate announcing grant awards during CalRecycle's February 2026 Public Meeting.
Funding
- $23,750,000 available for each fiscal year.
- Up to $23,750,000 is the maximum available per applicant per fiscal year (FY).
- $3,000,000 is the minimum available per applicant per fiscal year (FY).
Eligibility Requirements
Eligible Projects
Infrastructure costs and start-up costs related to establishing a Bottle Washer Processor for glass California CRV reusable beverage containers.
Eligible Costs
Proposed eligible costs may include: • Equipment related to setting up a Bottle Washer Processor for reusable glass bottles (e.g., new bottle washer [parts/components for the system], forklift, office equipment). • Software technology related to the project. • Supplies and materials related to setting up a Bottle Washer Processor for reusable glass bottles (e.g., shelving, racks, or storage for reusable products). • Personnel directly related to the project (limited to 10% of the total request amount excluding equipment). • Training for grantees’ employees on new equipment and certifications needed to implement the project. • Construction, renovation, or expansion costs of facilities connected to installation and/or retrofitting of the equipment at the location.
Project Requirements
Projects must be located within California and service California-located businesses. Applicants will be required to identify the bottle washer processor location at time of application. Applicants must provide a timeline and supporting documentation for obtaining permits in the form of a letter from the appropriate City, County, or State Agency.
Applicants will be required to identify the grantee that will be certified as a Bottle Washer Processor by CalRecycle as a result of the grant. CalRecycle will identify the certification deadline in the grant award email.
