Public Education and Outreach Campaign
CalRecycle is working on a public education and outreach campaign to increase awareness of zero waste and the circular economy. The campaign has two specific calls-to-action: recycle food scraps in the green bin, and redeem California Redemption Value (CRV) beverage containers (including newly added wine and liquor containers) at recycling sites.
In the fall of 2024, CalRecycle worked with a contractor to conduct a survey and series of focus groups to better understand current knowledge and actions as well as barriers and beliefs related to the campaign topics.
Currently, CalRecycle is finalizing materials to launch the campaign later this year, including a website, video, and paid and earned media. The campaign will run through 2026. Please stay tuned for more updates on the launch and how you can help share campaign materials and amplify its message. Contact zerowaste@calrecycle.ca.gov for any questions.
