SB 343 Preliminary Revised Material Characterization Study Findings
Public Resources Code (PRC) Section 42355.51(d)(1)(B)(i) requires the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) to conduct and publish a characterization study of material types and forms that are collected, sorted, sold, or transferred by solid waste facilities. To meet this requirement, CalRecycle has published the SB 343 Material Characterization Study Revised Preliminary Findings, which is an update to the initial preliminary findings published on December 28, 2023. The Revised Preliminary Findings report includes refined analyses, additional data tables, and other changes based on additional data collection and in response to public comments. Additionally, the appendices of the revised preliminary findings report includes published comments and letters received from interested parties based on the December 2023 report.

Public Meeting
CalRecycle will host a formal public meeting to present the revised preliminary findings and allow interested parties to provide comments. The public meeting is planned for February 3, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM with options to attend virtually and in-person at the Sierra Hearing Room, 1001 I St in Sacramento. More details will be forthcoming through the listserv, including an agenda.
