CRIIS Will Transform How CalRecycle Works
The CalRecycle Integrated Information System (CRIIS) is a new cloud-based solution that will level up how CalRecycle does business and bring together 31 separate recycling and waste management applications and systems.
As CalRecycle’s work expands to include new programs and materials, the department is upgrading technology to keep up with our ever-increasing responsibilities and transitioning from a disposable to a fully circular economy.
CalRecycle has partnered with Accenture to build CRIIS, a cloud-based solution to support all programs and foster greater collaboration, consistency, and scalability across the department. CRIIS will simplify and streamline the way Californians request and receive CalRecycle services to align with statewide IT goals.
CRIIS will launch in three phases starting at the end of 2025 and early 2026. CalRecycle subject matter experts are currently consulting on the project by explaining current business processes and describing desired features in CRIIS. The CRIIS solution is designed to provide today’s services and meet tomorrow’s needs to align with statewide IT goals.
Working Smarter, Not Harder
CRIIS will address the top 5 technology challenges that CalRecycle faces every day.
-
Prepare for Future Growth: Many of CalRecycle's software applications are due for upgrades. Transitioning to a single solution will improve efficiency for future enhancements and ongoing maintenance.
-
Eliminate Redundancy: Some regulated entities and staff must log in and out of multiple applications daily to complete their work. CRIIS will save all of us time by consolidating similar tasks across 31 applications.
-
Increase Financial Automation: Many programs still use manual workflows to report financial data to Accounting and FI$CAL. CRIIS’ automated processes will reduce staff time and improve financial accuracy.
-
Leverage Department-Wide Reporting: For the first time, CRIIS will enable staff to compare apples-to-apples data across materials and programs, boosting CalRecycle’s ability to measure progress and address gaps in the Circular Economy.
-
Increase Self-Reporting: Many program participants still report data manually to CalRecycle. Electronic data collection will help the department monitor compliance more effectively.
