$3 Million Available for Beverage Container Recycling Grant Program
CalRecycle is pleased to announce that the Beverage Container Recycling Grant Program is open for applications.

Grant Details
The purpose of the grant is to issue up to $1,500,000 annually in the form of grants for beverage container recycling and litter reduction programs to promote increased recycling beverage containers throughout California and reduce beverage container CalRecycle's February 2025 Public Meeting.
Funding
- $1,500,000 available for each fiscal year.
- $275,000 is the maximum available for individual grant awards.
- $75,000 is the minimum available for individual grant awards.
Eligibility Requirements

Project Types
- Multi-family residential dwellings (five units or more).
- Public colleges/universities, non-profit colleges/universities, and public K-12 school districts.
- Curbside Residential Program.
- Community events.
- Parks/recreational areas.
- Water refill stations.
- Litter reduction and cleanup along the United States-Mexico border.
Applicants (include but not limited to):
- California cities, counties, state agencies, and other local governmental entities.
- Special districts (e.g., recreational park districts).
- Public colleges and universities, and public K-12 school districts.
- Non-profit organizations.
- Qualifying Tribal Entities.
- Joint Powers Authorities (JPA).
Eligible Costs
- Personnel costs capped at 25 percent of the total grant award.
- Purchase of equipment or materials related to infrastructure (beverage container recycling bins/receptacles).
- Purchase of water refill stations.
- Direct operating expenses.
- Expenses for an ongoing collection program.
- Education activities capped at 25 percent of the total grant award.

 Water Refill Stations
FY 2020-21 | $170,159.00 Awarded
The City of La Verne has purchased and installed 16 water refill stations in its parks and recreational areas. This initiative aimed to reduce the use of single-use beverage containers and improve the efficiency of recycling the remaining single-use containers.

 Bear Proof Beverage Container Recycling Bins
FY 2016-17 | $211,732.00 Awarded
The Town of Mammoth Lake's project enhanced its existing program by allocating a majority of grant funds towards the purchase of long-term beverage container recycling bins and infrastructure. The bear proof beverage container recycling bins and the equipment upgrades will continue to benefit the community for many years to come while promoting sustainability.
