SB 54 Advisory Board Remote Attendance

Pursuant to the Bagley-Kene Open Meeting Act [Government Code 11123.5 (c)], CalRecycle is providing at least 24-hour notice that the following advisory board members will be attending the advisory board meeting remotely:

Thomas A. Helme, Co-Founder & Project Director of Valley Improvement Projects, Representative from an environmental justice organization

Wes Carter, President & Co-Founder of Atlantic Packaging Corp, Representative of a manufacturer of covered materials

Shane Buckingham, EPR Program Planning Lead for Circular Action Alliance, Representative from a producer responsibility organization

Rachel Michelin, President & Chief Executive Officer of the California Retailers Association, Representative from a statewide association representing the retail sector
On June, 21 2024, CalRecycle will host an Advisory Board meeting for the implementation of SB 54 (Allen, Chapter 75, Statutes of 2022). During this meeting, the Advisory Board will host a panel of representatives from the Advisory Boards/Councils working on packaging EPR laws in Illinois and Oregon to provide an overview of their experience. Other topics of discussion include:
- An update from CalRecycle on the SB 54 regulations
- Review the template/outline for advisory board recommendations regarding barriers and solutions to a circular economy

Discuss key barriers and solutions to advance the objectives of reducing production or virgin materials for covered materials and reducing landfilling of covered materials
