LOMPOC, CA, April 26, 2024 – The Charlotte’s Web Bookmobile is excited to announce a new summer teen volunteer program for 2024. Teenage volunteers will have an opportunity to create youth or family activity programs that will be featured outside the bookmobile during Old Town Market this summer.
Teens 14 to 17 years old can volunteer for the Charlotte’s Web Bookmobile summer program. In addition, teens can choose to also volunteer as part of the Lompoc Public Library’s Summer Reading Program. Participants can decide to volunteer in one program or both.
While teen volunteers helped with the bookmobile programs at last summer’s Old Town Market, the 2024 volunteer program encourages youth to take a more active role in the planning and supervision of the activities.
Rachell Frazian, youth services librarian and bookmobile manager for the Lompoc Public Library, explained the change.
“Last year, we tried something new by hosting activities for family and youth directly outside of the bookmobile and every week we had a new activity. Some activities included giant bubbles, giant building blocks and one Friday, we covered the bookmobile with paper and set out crayons for the community to create their own mural. Last year was also the first year we used teen volunteers to help with the activities. It was a great experience and a lot of fun but now we want to do something different.”
Frazian continued, “This year, we want the teen volunteers to design and supervise the activities. Volunteers will have a budget to buy materials and will learn the behind-the-scenes work that goes into making a successful public library program.”
Online registration is available for the program at: https://tinyurl.com/LPLTeenVolunteers.
