Recycling Used Batteries
Are you properly recycling your batteries? It is illegal in CA to throw any type of battery into your trash or recycling barrels, home and work.
Here's what you can do with them instead:
- Collect your used batteries of varying sizes and power levels. Acceptable batteries include most alkaline and lithium-ion types such as AA, AAA, C, D, 9V, Button Cell, Laptop, Cell Phone, Key Fob, Watch, etc. Verify with Burrtec that your batteries are acceptable when reserving your HHW collection date.
- Tape both terminal ends of your batteries. Scotch, masking, duct, or electrical tape are fine.
- Place taped batteries in a clear, Ziploc-style bag that can be sealed. Ensure there is no water or other liquid in the bag.
- Call or email Burrtec to schedule a HHW collection date. (760) 340-2113. CustomerService@burrtecdesert.com.
- Batteries can be collected with other HHW materials on the same collection date.
- Visit the City's recycling website for more information.
Pro Tip: Tape your battery ends after replacing them with new batteries and store in a secure location. This will save lots of time rather than taping all used batteries at once during the day of collection.
CV Link Update
Led by the Coachella Valley Association of Governments (CVAG), CV Link will connect our valley with a safer 40-mile alternative transportation and recreational corridor along the Whitewater River for bicyclists, pedestrians, and low-speed electric vehicles. It will also provide a safer route for kids to go to school and serve as a meeting place for community activities and events.
The main pathway through La Quinta is currently under construction. It runs about 2 miles along the south side of the Coachella Valley stormwater channel (also known as the Whitewater River) from Washington Street to Jefferson Street. This includes a signature promontory access point and bridge over the La Quinta stormwater channel, linking the City with Indio’s portion of CV Link.
The CV Link website features construction updates and an interactive map of the entire CV Link route that shows which portions are complete, currently under construction, and planned for the future. For more information, please visit www.laquintaca.gov/cvlink.
