Art in Public Places:
Time Stream II
Art Piece: Time Stream II (2008)
Artist: Destiny Allison
Location: Avenida Navarro and Avenida Montezuma Roundabout
Destiny Allison creates her steel sculptures with a combination of organic forms and geometric shapes through use of a MIG welder and plasma cutter. She creates colors by applying acid patina and heat to the raw metal after the form has been created. Allison describes her work as conceptual, beginning each piece with a question, usually related to human roles or relationships. She examines myths, symbols, and the origins of how humans define themselves. For Allison, art is a process of discovery, and while creating her sculptures, she seeks to give form and voice to the things in life that are silent and tantric. Steel is an exciting medium to Allison because it can have an exceptional softness in the final finish and there are infinite shapes and forms she can create. Time Stream II is currently displayed at the roundabout on Avenida Navarro and Avenida Montezuma.
