Dear Neighbor,
This week we celebrated a major milestone in the transformation of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center with the ribbon cutting of its new Outpatient Center. This marks the fourth of six new facilities being built as part of the County’s historic Harbor-UCLA Medical Center Replacement Program.

The Harbor-UCLA Medical campus that has served our unincorporated Willowbrook and South Bay communities for more than 60 years, is being transformed into a modernized medical campus to ensure that Harbor-UCLA can continue providing high-quality, lifesaving care to the more than 3 million people who rely on it. The $1.9 billion replacement program will be complete by 2028 and represents the largest infrastructure investment in Los Angeles County history.
When I stood before the new 370,000-square-foot Outpatient Center that will bring specialized services like maternity, radiology, cardiology and pediatrics together under one roof, I shared that this building is about more than bricks and concrete. During a time when we see continued attacks on access to healthcare, this is about the people who will walk through these doors - the children, families, seniors, and neighbors from all walks of life - who deserve to know that high-quality health care is here for them. Check out more of my remarks in the video below.
A huge thank you to the County Department of Public Works, Department of Health Services, Hensel Phelps Construction, Harbor UCLA Medical, and all the County teams and more than 1,000 workers who helped make this milestone possible.

We're helping to keep you informed and prepared this upcoming storm season. There have been many questions about El Niño and what it could mean for our communities. It's important to note that El Niño is a recurring climate pattern that develops when ocean temperatures in parts of the Pacific become warmer than normal, influencing weather patterns across large regions and over an extended period.
While El Niño can increase the potential for more rain in this winter season. National Weather Service meteorologist Ariel Cohen recently shared more about what we can expect during his presentation to the Board of Supervisors earlier this month. Watch the clip here.
With the possibility of increased rainfall, now is the time to prepare. I encourage all residents to:

$1.2 million is coming to Wishing Tree Park in our unincorporated West Carson community! It was a joy to join Congresswoman Nanette Barragán in presenting this check to community members and to know that these funds will bring much-needed shade improvements, including more trees and structures to help protect from extreme heat.
Thank you, Congresswoman Barragán, for securing these funds that will help create a safer and more usable Wishing Tree Park for everyone.
Our Spot - Teen Well-Being Lounge is opening at Lennox Park (10828 S. Condon Avenue, Inglewood CA 90304) on Wednesday September 30 at 4:30pm, bringing a third space for Teens across the 2nd District.
