Dear Neighbor,
New federal work requirements under the Trump administration’s H.R. 1 law are changing how many residents maintain access to food and health care through CalFresh and Medi-Cal. To help residents navigate these new requirements - which may include completing volunteer or work hours- LA County is establishing a Workfare/Community Service program that connects impacted residents with volunteer opportunities at designated worksites.
If you’re part of a nonprofit, faith-based organization, or government agency, your organization may be able to help fellow residents meet the new federal requirements while supporting the needs of our communities.
Community Partners, is teaming up with LA County’s Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) and Center for Strategic Partnerships to offer a Workfare/Community Service Resource Hub to help qualifying organizations become partner worksites. Renovation of the La Brea Tar Pits has started. Although the museum at the La Brea Tar Pits is temporarily closed for construction, many outdoor areas of Hancock Park are open. I’m also excited to share that the California Infrastructure and Economic Development Bank (IBank) – the state’s financing authority that helps make major infrastructure and economic development projects possible that benefit the public – is providing $236 million in bond financing to support this incredible project.
